I have called quite a few up that close using a Burnham Brothers WF4 coyote call. They come in with their hair bristled up and popping their teeth.

I have seen some, killed a couple, and eaten J stew, and that one was as big as I have seen.
Must have had poor sense of smell and well a poor sight.

Not really. Their curiosity often overcomes any fear. It's not clear in that video but it appears to have it's back hair puffed up which is usually the way they come in when checking out a squeal call. I have called them back even after they identified me as "not one of us". They are quite inquisitive at times. The little ones make a neat housepet.

Re: Javelina!
That's a coyote hand call. I have used them to call up Mule Deer and Javelina as well as foxes. I have had Javelina up close like that ... run right at you ... note the hair on its back standing up. When they come in aggressive like that I always figured they thought something had one of their little ones and came to fight. When they figure out you are human they run off and won't come back. But before that they will run in close and you can often call them back. I think the nearest I have shot one was about 3 feet. I would rather have a bit more room.marlinman93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 4:09 pm Check out this video. Too close for comfort. I've never heard a javalena call like this guy uses?

A few of the Javelina from over the years ... all in Arizona, around the Oracle area.
Taken with Italian made copy of the 1858 Remington .44 ... about a 30 yards shot.
Taken with the 480 Achilles ... about 25 feet
SCI record book Javelina in the 1980's. Taken with Linebaugh built .45 ... I donated the skull to the SCI Wildlife Museum in Tucson.
Taken with .41 Magnum at about 8 feet

I knew of several ranchers who had a pet Javelina ... raised from a baby that they saved from coyotes. They used a potty box when young and were easily housebroken. The biggest problem was they usually were attached to one or two people and would bite anyone else who came too close. But they sure were cute when young.
