Just Returned from Gary Reeder's Handgun Hunters Challenge
Spent 1st - 4th in Monterey, TN with Gary Reeder at the Handgun Hunters Challenge. Met a lot of nice folks and got to do a little hunting.
Took a cow Elk with my .41 Magnum .. 210 gr. XTP .. at about 90 yards.
Later I was standing in weeds and brush up to my armpits, taking photos of hogs slipping by. All of sudden I saw this in my viewfinder:
The .41 came out of the holster and somehow the bullet landed on the hogs head!
So we have meat in the freezer!!

Good shootin' and good eating as well. I bet the Elk is tender as lamb.

Not sure about hogs, but I can't imagine anything more satisfying than elk with a handgun. I took my first one with a .44 S&W at 90 yards some 30 years ago!
Nice shootin', Jim.
Nice shootin', Jim.

That looks like a heck of a good time.

210 gr. XTP pushed by 20 gr. WC 820.
First shot I hit the elk in the left shoulder and shattered the shoulder. Not sure how far into the chest the bullet went. The elk dropped it's head and then took a couple steps to the right. I put the next one behind the left shoulder, angling forward toward the right shoulder. The elk turned to its right as if it were going to head for the trees where there is a really deep ravine. I put the next one through its neck and dropped it. When I looked at the elk up close there was a bulge in the hide on the right side. I slit it open and popped the bullet from the 2nd shot out. The guide said the elk was dying from one or both of the first shots and that it was getting ready to lay down. I just wanted to end it quickly.

Good Shooting Jim. I've taken several elk with a muzzleloader (old style with iron sights, etc.) but never with a handgun.

Praise the Lord Jim, sure glad you had a good hunt. Reckon that just being there was good but that much meat to take back to Texas will sure be nice too.

Great job! Thank you for photos and thread, Pastor Jim.

Nice shooting!
I had a couple .41s years ago. They were always great shooters. Do the Tenn. Elk require a special permit?

At first glance there, I thought you got somebody's mule!! I gotta' get my eyes checked! Good shootin', a pig on the barbeque, yummm!
Re: Just Returned from Gary Reeder's Handgun Hunters Challen
Nice shooting Jim. I would have to practice for a year every day to shoot half that well with a handgun.

Rusty .. It is all on private property so you don't need licenses or permits. You just need cash or good credit.Rusty wrote:Nice shooting!
