Humor: "One Marine is better than....................."

Post by Old No7 »

Maybe this has been posted here before, I can't recall, but I'm posting it for Gunny Reed and for all others who have served or are serving -- in any branch of the service.

May God Bless all those who fight to keep us free.

Old No7

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune saying, "One Marine is better than ten Taliban."

The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence...

The voice then calls out, "One Marine is better than a hundred Taliban soldiers."

Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence...

The Marine voice calls out, "One Marine is better than one thousand Taliban."

The enraged Taliban commander musters a thousand fighters and sends them all over the dune. Cannon, rocket, and machine gun fire rings out as a huge battle is fought.

Then silence...

Finally, one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, it's a trap....

"...There are two of them!!!"

I just got "The Pacific" and my favorite part is the Guadalcanal campaign, the action was very intense. I believe in one battle they killed 2200 Japs with a loss of 26 Marines.

One thing I noticed in the movie was the use of shotguns for quick work when a bad guy would breach the line. Ouch.

I'm going to order some books about Guadalcanal - the last time I read about it was when I was 11 or 12. Any suggestions?

We have a few former Marines in my light infantry unit. Most have been top notch. I always thought this story was funny.

West Virginia FARM KID in Marines (NOW AT San Diego CORPS RECRUIT TRAINING)

Dear Ma and Pa,

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile.. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing.

Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee.Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again. It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much.

We go on 'route marches,' which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A 'route march' is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.

The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing.I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges they come in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6' and 130 pounds and he's 6'8' and near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,Alice

Gunny,

What uniform are those young men wearing. It looks different than my son's Blue. Or is it just the way the colors show up in the picture.

It is what we call Dress Blues Bravos. Which means only ribbon and badges are worn instead of medals.

Here are the Alpha version with medals.

Them taliban boys were confused, those two guys were actually Navy Seals. Hard for foriegners to tell apart! It'd been believable if it'd been a platoon!

Even though I have been in the USAF for 22+ years, I have always thought the Marines were the toughest of the tough, and always had the sharpest uniforms.

Thanks Jeremy, the pants color threw me off. In the picture of the two guys they look a good bit lighter than the other pictures. When my son got married he wore his Alphas and the guys in the wedding party and sword arch wore their Bravos

The U.S. armed forces is one of the things that make me proudest of being an American. My son is currently serving in the Coast Guard in Alaska.

If we could only get the politicians to allow the soldiers to do their job the way they are taught...
Good joke anyway. It could be about the same with S.E.A.L.s, Green Beret, Rangers, Pathfinders, Airborne, or any of several other groups which is difficult to get into. SeaBees might take 3 of them as they would be building a landing strip at the same time as they are fighting.

They are all the same color it is just the lighting that makes them look different. When I got married I was in my Bravos as I was just a lowly PFC and didn't have any medals at the time.

The photo of the two young Marines was taken on the day the younger (taller) one graduated boot camp. The second was taken a world away, but only a few months later. That warrior in the center doesn't look much like the kid on the right of the first photo. Funny what a war will do, or maybe not.

The date stamp is a bit off, as this was taken just after Fallujah was taken, the first time.
