Who uses Hodgdens Titegroup?

Post by Chuck 100 yd »

Hodgdens Titegroup is one of the few powders I haven`t used.
The lyman manual said it was the most accurate powder they tested in the .45 Colt with cast 250 gr Lyman 452664 bullets.

"As the name implies, this new spherical propellant was designed for accuracy. Because of the unique design, this powder provides flawless ignition with all types of primers including the lead-free versions. Unlike pistol powders of the past, powder position in large cases (45 Colt, 357 Magnum and others) has virtually no effect on velocity and performance. Cowboy Action, Bullseye and Combat Shooters should love this one! TITEGROUP has it all, low charge weight, clean burning, mild muzzle report and superb, uniform ballistics. Available in 1 lb., 4 lb. & 8 lb. containers."

I have some coming from Graffs to give it a try

I bought two Lyman 452664 molds and machined the bevel base part out of one of them to create a flat base bullet of that design.
I will be giving then a work out in a couple of weeks, weather permitting. :D

I use it for .45colt it shoots very nice in my Rugers using a 250gr RNFP it also shoots well out of my Win trapper. Velocity with a max load out of the trapper only runs around 950fps it is a fast burning clean powder in my guns.

Also a little goes a long way 6gr in the 45 is a good load in my Ruger.

I use it in my 45acp with a 200 swc. I like it and a pound goes a long way.

A friend gave me some 45 colt that he had loaded with 6.2grns of Titegroup behind a 255grn rnfp that shot amazing in my ruger. Charge seemed very mild but was extremely accuate.

Just picked up a 1lb canister yesterday for $18 at a local shop. Apparently he doesnt practice the art of adjusting the price after it has sat on the shelf for a while. Plan to use it for mild .44 loads as well as .45 ACP.

I use it in RM in 44 Colt and that silly pistol will outshoot (<1.5") about any other handgun I have. Burns cleaner than Unique. Only thing I don't like is that with my dry climate, it will cling to anything with static. Clings all over my powder hopper. I will try using a static cling laundry paper thingy the next time before I load the hopper.
