What I like about this forum
Besides the stellar conduct and knowledge of the folks here, no one ever mentions Glocks.
Now don't get me wrong, I own a couple. But there are some forums where you'd think the only handgun ever made was a Glock. And heaven forbid you mention a single action revolver, much less for defense.
Of course, I strongly suspect the average age of the participants is over 50. That likely accounts for the general politeness and respect.

There's been a few lively discussions here involving Glocks. I have a personal favorite saying, "1911's are what you show your friends, Glocks are what you show your enemies." I recall one very avid 1911 fan here saying his biggest complaint about a Glock was they work so well. I've owned several 1911's and other pistols, but I'll probably never buy anything but Glocks for me and my family. Someday I'll have a model T, some old farm implements, and a old Colt 1911.

My wife has a Glock. Don't remember what model but it is a small 9mm and I haven't seen it in a couple of years. She has one of those purses with a built in holster so I assume it's in there. I'm comfortable with that.

50 years old, own one 1911 and one Block. For hunting with handguns, I use either my Super Blackhawk or Super Redhawk. Would I ever purchase another Block? No, because they are uncomfortable to hold.

I hear ya'll. While I don't currently own one now, I've owned two M-19s in the past and I am very favorable of them. I intend to rectify that empty slot in the safe in the future.
They are not particularly pretty, but by golly I can hit with it almost as good as my 1911.

I guess Glocks have their place and after all, they did start a "revolution". I worked with a feller that was much more knowledgeable than me on semi-auto handguns and this opinion is that Glocks were designed as "throw away" military side arms. I dunno, I've only shot 1, in 45 ACP, and wasn't impressed at all...

Throw away? I doubt there is a more durable semi auto pistol ever built.

Every Glock I've ever owned did exactly that, straight from box to firing, no lube or anything, and several mag dumps in a row with zero failures.JB wrote:Of course the Glock folks would say, they opened up the box, zero tuning, factory mags, and their stock gun feed reliably from the first shotGriff wrote:+2.Chuck 100 yd wrote:+1jnyork wrote:What's a glock?

And you don't have to replace springs, do any tuning and just use the stock magazines. Not bad for a $450.oo handgun.

Bingo. It's the shovel of the pistol world. My Gen 3 Glock 34 is a workhorse. Never fails to go bang and hasn't jammed yet. Sure, it's not as sexy or glamorous as a Colt SAA, but sometimes I just want something to work all the time, everytime, no questions asked.
Some people just need a sympathetic pat on the head.....with a hammer. Repeatedly.

The thread didn't drift. It stayed right on topic. ..
I currently own 6 Glocks, 17, 26, 30S, 21, 42, and 43. Love them all. They function exactly alike and I can transition from one to the other with ease.
I also own a 1911 and have had Sig (German for "boat anchor") and a few M&Ps. I really like the M&Ps, with the exception of the trigger. If a Glock had and M&P grip or an M&P had a crisper trigger, I'd own some more of them again. In the past, holster selection was a detriment to the carrying of an M&P. Maybe not now?
The most accurate semi auto handgun I ever owned was an early M&P 40. I sold it because someone wanted it worse than I did and it had a magazine disconnect safety.

The Colt 1911's are great guns. I own 2 of them and don't plan on letting them go. Glocks are an improvement in defensive handguns over the 1911, same as the 1911 was an improvement over the Colt 1873. No bashing, it's evolution.

Re: What I like about this forum
I have 3 Glocks - 2 are 10mm's and i consider them to be specialty hunting sidearms, -- also have a .380 which is as accurate as my much nicer looking Sig 238 380 (the baby 1911)
Not much to talk about 'em , - they work well, are accurate enough and are uglier than a fictional mother in law -----
Im a 10mm fan more than a Glock fan and for a while - Glock was the only game in town - the Colt Delta was reportedly finicky with full boost loads and it was tough to find a secondhand Smith 1006
-- But now i have a Sig 220 chambered in 10mm and all is right with the world -- a hot cartridge and ergos that dont feel like a chunky brick in your hand
That said- the Glocks arent going anywhere even though i have a new fair-haired son - 15 rounds of 10mm is cold comfort stuffed between the mattress and box springs on my side of the bed at night (and the Sig is single stack with 8 rounds on tap in comparison)

I have a Gen. 4 Glock 40 -- the six-inch barreled 10mm with slide milled to accept a red dot. I haven't mounted the Burris Fastfire III yet, but hope to soon. Also bought an Accurate Mold to cast a 200-grain flat point -- and a Lone Wolf drop in barrel to handle cast. Should make a good hunting rig.

I have to question why the consensus seems to be that everyone has to justify why they own a Glock, and yet doesn't feel any need to defend the decision to carry a Single Action revolver for defense. Or am I the only one here that's carried a SAA as a SD gun.jeepnik wrote:Besides the stellar conduct and knowledge of the folks here, no one ever mentions Glocks.

Re: What I like about this forum
Just curious....Do you open carry the SAA, or conceal it? And, where? Texas just recently legalized open carry.I have to question why the consensus seems to be that everyone has to justify why they own a Glock, and yet doesn't feel any need to defend the decision to carry a Single Action revolver for defense. Or am I the only one here that's carried a SAA as a SD gun.

Glocks work EVERY TIME. You don't need to modify them, throw 1/3 of the gun away and send it off to a Smith to get it to work right. And sweat magazines and bullet shapes. That's it. That's why people buy $500.00 Glocks when the $ 3k 1911's after several trips to the Smith, still don't work right. The 1873 Colt's will protect and defend you. But, the Glock is the latest and bestest on the evoultinary scale. You don't see the World's military going back to Trapdoor 45-70 and Colt Single action revolvers.Griff wrote:I have to question why the consensus seems to be that everyone has to justify why they own a Glock, and yet doesn't feel any need to defend the decision to carry a Single Action revolver for defense.
