Pellet (air rifle/pistol) carriers...?

To save money on ammunition sometimes when I take a walk out behind the house, I will take my little Ruger pellet pistol. It's not all that accurate, but it's kind of fun to shoot, quiet, and very inexpensive since it doesn't even need a CO2 cartridge. I wind up sticking a Skoal-can sized pellet tin in my back pocket but it is sort of awkward to get that out each time to take a pellet out, and I wondered if there's a better solution. I could use a little pill vial to put 10 or 20 pellets in, but I wondered if there's any other solution you guys have used to keep a few pellets handy for plinking.

You could make a leather disc with a series of holes around the edge just big enough to hold a pellet snugly. Something like the muzzleloader rendezvous folks use:

Just got back from the Field Target National Championship. A lot of the competitors had something similar to what Shasta shows, but made of rubber type material and arranged in rows on a rectangular format. They'd hang them around their neck or from their shooting jacket on a lanyard. Most seemed to have them set up in rows of 5, 10 rows giving 50 shots which was equivalent to the number of targets on the range. Punch a 4mm hole through the rubber and the 4.5mm (.177 caliber) pellets will be held firmly, yet easily accessed and removed for use. I've got an old FG Hungarian rifle that I traded for a while back. The former owner did the same type of thing, but attached the rectangle to the stock with rubber cement. So you grab the rifle and you've got pellets at hand as well, quite handy. They sell the rubber matting here as "foamy", it's kind of a medium density rubber that is used a lot in crafts. You could set up to use different colors for different calibers or pellets so you'd know at a glance which ones you'd grabbed before heading out.

If I'm going out in the woods, I take a pellet pen like Rock-Steady recommended. Makes things fumble free.

I'm a lifelong airgun shooter! when I was a kid my cousin and I would carry pellets in our mouths as we roamed the country side terrorizing the wildlife (!!!!!)

but, for the most part I always did - and still do just dump a few in my pocket.

I can still hear the pellets clanking around in the dryer at my parents house as it seemed like at least once a week I'd forget to take the pellets out of my pants pocket and they'd go through the washer and dryer.

sometimes I wonder if I should get my blood lead level checked.......

The proper size allen wrench carried in your tin of pellets will let you grab one up by inserting the allen wrench in the base of the pellet, and holds on to it while you insert it into the gun. Not fumble proof, but almost.

Just a little leather pouch I can wear around my neck. It's quiet and beats sucking on lead all day. My break barrel is 30 cal and the other is a PCP in 45 cal that shoots real bullets so there is nothing off the shelf for me in particular. Here's a belt pouch that could be very handy.

I still do that, with clean pellets. Have had a few folks freak out about it over the years. DON'T do this for old pellets with any white dust on them from oxidation! It's the lead oxide you've got to worry about, not the lead itself.

Otherwise, a few in one's pocket is a good place to start, as Nath said. I usually grab two or three and place them between my lips when about to "go into action". Have been doing this for near half a century and it still works fine - with unoxidized pellets.

Those pellet pens work fine for a break barrel rifle, not too handy for a fixed barrel with a loooong scope over the port. Shucks, I don't think they'll work with a fixed barrel like a ProSport or TX200 even without the scope issue. Still handy under the right circumstances. I've got one, but rarely get it out due to mostly shooting my ProSport or CFX fixed barrels.

Doc, this is what I do; the most popular automotive fuses come in a couple of sizes, ATC and ATM. The boxes for ATC fuses are roughly 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 x 1/2" and for the ATM (mini) are the same but only 1/4" deep. The advantage is that they are shallow enough to be able to pick out a pellet with thumb and forefinger. Even the one for the mini fuses holds plenty of pellets, they fit easily into a shirt pocket and they're quiet. You can find them at any automotive parts store and they may even save the day if you need an extra fuse.

Lots of good suggestions here. Thanks. I had thought about repurposing a primer feed tube for my Dillon reloading press but those little primer pens probably work better. I also have some of the little automotive fuse containers, and the other thing that comes to mind is a variety of little keychain medication vials that the pharmacies sell.

I often carry my pellets in a plastic 35mm film canister.

Below is a pic I snapped this morning after topping off the onboard pellet carrier I mentioned above. It's handy, just grab the rifle and (if it's topped up) you've got 30 rounds at hand. It's placed on the right side of the forestock, out of the way at least for a right hander. It's just a bit of craft rubber foam cut to size and with 4mm holes punched through it, then fastened to the stock with (I assume) contact cement. The pellets fit snugly and I've never lost one of them in regular use.
