Re: More Info on Ruger's "Old Army"
I have a couple of Old Armies. A standard blue model that I have had for more than 30 years and a stainless fixed sight version that a couple of buddies went in on for me and I don't know that I ever fired it. Though I have shot the blue model quite a bit.

Re: More Info on Ruger's "Old Army"
Thanks for the info. I had a blued Old Army for years that I'd bought from one of my best friend's dad while I was in college. About 20 years ago, after the passing of his dad, my friend inquired about it with the hope of buying it back. He ended up trading me a stainless Old Army for his dad's pistol. I rather preferred the blued one but given the circumstances I know that blued gun meant more to him that to me. Besides, the stainless one shoots every bit as good.

Thanks for sharing. Heres hoping I will need it sometime.
Re: More Info on Ruger's "Old Army"
I had one several years ago that I only kept for a short while. I did a lot of research on them when I had it. One of the things I found out was that there are mods that people make to them. One thing they do is to ream out the cylinder to remove the step in the chamber that allows it to hold just a few more grains of powder.

I hate them! Ugly abominations of the gunmakers art. Disgustingly reliable modern mechanicals, yet they're allowed to compete alongside my beautiful, graceful, aesthetically pleasing, historically correct Colt 1851s! If they ever make them in an appropriately sized .36, I'll be 1st to pre-order a pair! Especially with a 4-½ to 5" bbl!

I'd like one of those too...
In fact, I once designed a BP version of the Single Six, in .36 caliber, 5-shot -- and dubbed it the "Old Navy" and send the full-sized drawing off to Ruger...
...Nothing...
I then got really ambitious and bought a used Single Six and was starting to make plans to take a saw and file to it to "make my own" when I realized I had a great idea -- but not the skills or equipment to pull it off (especially making a new cylinder that was closed on one end and D&T'd for nipples)... Oh well... She would have been a beauty though!

Saw a stainless one today at a gun shop. I don't recall the price.
