The seller that has the nice .22 Colt Lightning rifle also has a 1886 EL rifle in .45-70 up for bid(Auction #10111563). he calls the gun by the serial number as an antique, but according to Cody it is not. This is an example of a numbered lower tang languishing in a parts bin for a decade. That's what confused me about this otherwise fine 1886. The number, 104190, would indicate 1895 manufacture, but it actually was assembled in 1905. That also explains how it has a third model upper tang, which would be correct for the year it was finally assembled and sent to the warehouse. This is the info from Cody concerning this rifle:
