DRC lever on MArlin 1895 Cowboy

Post by Irascible »

I want to order a DRC lever for my 1895 Cowboy 45-70. I see a couple of versions, both blue and stainless, for the straight grip guns. Which one is the proper blue version :?:
Everybody seems to have the levers back ordered! Is there a problem with DRC? :?:

It is a slightly larger lever for use with gloved hands. Not as big as Wild Wests nor Brockmans.
Brownell's states they don't sell them anymore, but Midway still does.

DRC are the initial for a gunsmith. I believe his name is David Rice Clay. He had a good reputation back a few years ago for altering Marlins including making them takedowns. He also did some 1911 work.

I think he fell off the face of the earth. He had a website for awhile, but it's been down for a couple years. Everyone that use to stock his products does no longer.

Dave Clay lives just south of Fort Worth, I read someplace that he's had some pretty severe "personal problems" but is getting his gunsmithing business back up and running.

Hey guys, just want to let you all know that Dave Clay is back in business and his personal problems are finally in the past. Dave recently teamed up with some friends and is now part of DRC Firearms. The website is www.drcfirearms.com 888-986-9888. With DRC Firearms, Dave has a lot more shop space to work in and he has better equipment to get orders out in a more timely fashion. On the website you can buy the large loop levers and stainless steel followers that Dave has been making for many years. You will also notice on the website that Dave Clay is featuring a custom stainless steel lever gun that will soon be in production! It will be offered in 454 Casul, 475 Linebaugh and 500 S&W. 6-8 weeks to ship from the time of ordering. Dave has designed an action so precise and perfect that for testing purposes he made the 500 S&W action out of aluminum and it held up beautifully to the pressure. (Dave is very modest but I think he wanted to show off a little.) Stop by and check out the site when you all get a second. Let us know what you think.

YES! An American made lever in .454/.475.500 w/ no CB or Tang safety!!! It's pricey, but I think it may just be a winner!!!

Good to see Dave is back up and running and it sounds like he has a good team put together!

Has anybody purchased anything off the sight? I just went to order two followers and a lever and Paypal kicked it back saying, there was a problem with their email address.

WELL, I just tried a smaller credit card purchase, against my better judgement, and that won't go through either!

Well, my two cents is the following: It is a pretty nice looking rifle, but it looks just like a 336 with an octagonal barrel and I sure would never buy a lever gun with a plastic stock and forearm. Call me an old fuddy duddy but while I can handle the stainless I just have to have wood on a lever action rifle. And the price is over $2400. For $1800 I could have a Big Horn Armory in .500S&W and it has nice wood. I have been saving my pennies for one but so far no luck, cars break, plumbing leaks etc. I may have to break down and put it on a credit card. God Bless.

FYI, we are having some problems with the payment gateway for making purchases. Definitely not ideal. We are told by authorize.net that it should be fixed in a couple days. For the time being, all purchases will have to be made by calling. We can process the credit card over the phone. 888-986-9888 Thanks for your patience.

Ah so there is a DRC lever and any criticism of the OP was actually ignorance or just rude.

Wonder how the 454 model shoots 45 longs, this could be the best all around lever gun today? What do others think.

o.s.o.k. yes thats the lever. Just enough bigger than stock for a gloved hand, but without looking like John Wayne or The Rifleman. Not that I have anything against those heros.
