I use Bullseye exclusively in my quiet loads. 45-70's get 4 grains with a soft 400 grain bullet for about 550 fps. I have never made quiet loads for the 38-55, but if I did, I would start with 2.5-3 grains of bullseye with a 250-270 grain LEAD bullet. Remember now, you have to tamp a little dacron over the powder to keep it in place. (just go snag a pillow when no one is looking--there's enough in one to last you a lifetime :D )-------------Sixgun

A 36 cal round ball W/ a small amount of Unique & and dacron, just enough over the powder to hold it next to the flash hole.
The load is in the Lyman cast bullet handbook. It might be also under .375 cal . listing.

Starline 2.125" brass, 7grs Trail Boss, 255gr Bear Creek Supply soft cast ignited by Rem. 2 1/2 primers. 950-975fps. Use an expander .002" smaller than bullet diameter so as not to swage down the bullet. Very accurate and very quiet. Careful, this load will penetrate. Regards, 1886.

I use a similar load to Lefty Dude. A primed .38-55 case, with about 3 grs. of Unique, (no filler for me) then a cast .380" round ball on top, with just a dab of Lee liquid alox to hold it to the case. I let them stand overnight so the alox dries, and then load them single into my old Marlin lever for fun short range plinking. I've also used them in my Ballards in .38-55, and .38 Long doing the same thing. On the .38 Long I use a .375" round ball.-Vall
