Great work mate, my grandfather was a saddler and he taught me to do a bit of leatherwork, now that I look at your holster it brings back a lot of good memories and reminds me that I should get a few projects going myself.

I've had leather-working tools, laying around my workshop, since the -70's, and a late friend gave me a side of treated cowhide about then too, that's almost depleted.

The edge stitching on the holster is machine done, but I did the flap by hand with a curved saddler's needle, because I had this dumb idea about a strap pouch holster (which simply folds to form the belt loop) - which turned out sour on a short barreled shootin' iron.
Sooooooo, I cut off half of the back flap and the loop area, trimmed it to a taper and sewed the tip to the closed holster body.
The coloring is a combination of shoe polishes, overlaid/buffed - brown/cordovan/oxblood.
I like a retaining thong on the hammer, ILO a strap - so that's simply threaded through a hole punched in the rear top wall and knotted in back, after I first measured the right length for this gun in this holster.

I'm debating add a tie-down thong, braided into what looks like a hangman's noose, and hung from the bottom.

Borregos, those are the Ruger factory black plastic grips they use now.

I have a slab of what I think is Gaboon Ebony, which is a dark reddish brown with black streaking grain, that I intend to whittle to fit the XR3 gripframe & internal lock on my NV.

When I get done, THEN I'll have to decide between "no medallions", Ruger Black Eagle Medallions, or inlaid .45 Colt cutoff brass case heads (which are the same 1/2" diameter as the Ruger medallions).

I like the idea of the case heads, I put a cut off 30-30 case head on a Pachmyer grip for my 14" T/C 30-30 in place of the Pachmyer logo that fell out, it looks good

Well, no habala espanola partner, but looks to me like that's the model 455 "case colored" like mine. Looks real nice. Specally riding a horse.
I'm using a factory dbl. loop holster myself.
