The forum switcheroo - we're moved - for the most part

Post by AmBraCol »

Guys, we're gonna be switching to the new server this week sometime. So hang onto your hats and hold on. :) Nothing should change from one to the other except the space it's hosted on. At some point this place will go static, read only. Don't panic, we'll be going live ASAP on the other server. At that point, once the database is moved over, we'll post the URL to the new server. Follow the signpost and you'll be there, post count, etc intact. I repeat, we're only changing the server - the software, content, postcount, etc should remain the same. Once we have the new place up and inhabitable we'll post the link and then we'll throw the switch so that this URL will point there as well. Thanks to all who pitched in to help us move to roomier quarters. :) We've got space paid up for two years at this point. :) :D

In the meantime, please BTT this message so everyone gets a look at it. Thanks!

Well, we transferred everything, including the passwords, etc. The login is due to your browser not recognizing the .org as the same forum as .com was. As for bookmarks, that'd be OK, but we'll be switching the .com over so that it masks the .org this week. In other words, you can keep thinking of http://www.levergunscommunity.com as the official Paco Kelly Leverguns forum. We'll be finishing it all up this week, the Good Lord willing. As mentioned by David Fagan, we may have a slight downtime when the host moves the database to a dedicated database server. By my calculations and what they told me that may very well happen this weekend - give or take a couple days. That should improve the reliability and stability of the forum.

Hi David,
I didn't see it mentioned but I'm having to log in each time I come to the site and that's even checking the auto log box. Will the final move fix that?

Howdy,

We're now (at least from NW South America) able to access the forum via http://www.levergunscommunity.com . SO far it's retaining my login just fine now that the DNS has resolved. Try accessing via the link above - make sure you're not on the .org domain. Then it should work fine. They are both the same forum, just different domains mirroring the same content. If when you follow the link above (the one that ends in .COM) and you come to a notice that the forum is disabled then your DNS hasn't resolved yet. It takes longer for different parts of the globe. Here in a "third world country" we're actually ahead of the curve as compared to backwoods Wyoming and other such remote parts of the US. So depending on where folks are accessing the forum from it could take another day or two before the .COM domain resolves properly for them. So, once it does resolve, the login problem should be resolved. :)

Well, we're moved. We're still waiting for the hosting company to fix up the SQL database server for us but that should happen in the next day or so from what they told me. That should be fairly fast and we should have minimum down time as a result. Login from the http://www.levergunscommunity.com (note the .COM) URL as soon as you can. That way we'll all be on the same wavelength and topic reply notices should then come from the .com address and thus those who are using the forum logon check box should be able to view the replies with minimal fuss.

If you experience any issues, don't hesitate to let us know. Again, thanks for your patience and thanks to all who've made this move possible. :) Over the long run I expect it to pay off well in minimal downtime. :)

This is the old place. But since we never took the wheels off of it we just hooked it up and towed it to a new trailer park. See? Us rednecks may be all out of fashion and not know what's "hip" - but we can "get 'r done". :) So it's the old place in a new trailer park so to speak. And we went from an old Coleman popup to a doublewide in the process. Thanks to all who made it possible.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.... so you're awake and I wasn't... :) We need a sleepy smilie on here too... :D I "caught that" - after I'd posted it and didn't bother to go back and correct. But here's my take on it. "The same place" refers to the furniture and contents. We've just parked the Coleman on top of the doublewide, added a shipping container for storage and built a loading shed out back. :) Best of all, it's the same folks with all our library of history (from last year on, plus the "One Sticky") just chillin' and chattin' and being our usual ornery selves. :D

There are a few wrinkles here to learn but you can post directly from the files on your computer without photobucket - and apparently there are two places it will post or did I just inadvertently post twice???

What is viewed one time and not viewed yet - is this all in the one sticky - this will make TERRY happy if we should read the directions.

You can't just move the attachment code to the body of another post. Well you can but it won't work as you can see.

Yes sir, you somehow posted it twice. "Viewed once" or "Not viewed yet" indicates how many times (if any) that the picture has been clicked on for viewing in full size. No sir, it's not yet in the "One Sticky" - I'll remedy that when I get a chance. I've not tried to find a way to link directly to a pic that's been attached somewhere else. Will have to give it a try. If I figure it out I'll try to remember to include the instructions for doing so in the One Sticky.
