Rossi .45 Colt 92 rifle... and hot loads

Post by Deaf Smith »

Can the Rossi 92 in .45 Colt take 'Ruger only' loads?

Thanks!

My Rossi in 357 mag has handled 357 mag loads are are above or equal too most 30-30 loads with no problems. The brass stretches a little but no sticky extraction, mildly flattened primers but no cratering. The 158s and 180s hit deer, rabbit, woodchucks and yotes like a bolt of lightening. They will LITERALLY turn a coyote inside out, rabbits just vaporize. The max point blank for them is 150 yards which I find impressive. They do require a well made projectile like an XTP, HCGC or Hot Core

Rossi has been making the Model 92 in 454 Casull for some years. That is MUCH hotter than the Ruger-Only loads.

I ran a Lee 255 RNFP at 1650fps! My shoulder gave out before the brass or rifle did. Great gun start loading and shooting and give yer thoughts. Todd you a great combo for woods loafing anywhere.

.480 Ruger was made by Rossi. They run to a maximum of 48,000 psi. Honestly, that pressure is not necessary for most critters, but it is nice to know that you can get there if something big and dangerous needs to be whacked. That psi would be pretty hot in a .45 Colt caliber, but it certainly means that Ruger only loads are safe in a Rossi model 92.

Looked up a bit of data. Ruger only loads in .45 Colt usually go no more than 30,000 CUP. Approximately 30,000 psi. DO NOT QUOTE ME, look it up yourself and follow published data. I would feel safe using Ruger only loads in a rifle which handles .480 Ruger and 454 Casull. Work up carefully and have fun.

I have an older stainless Rossi in 45 Colt. Yes, it will take the Ruger Only loads , but it is.hard.on the brass as the chamber is overly large, even more than Ruger revolvers.
