Had to cull this one.

Post by wvfarrier »

About two weeks ago we had a pack of coyotes move through the farm. I dusted a couple of them after they went hunting for my ducks. Anyway, a day or two later I saw this buck with a pretty torn up leg and figured theyd gotten hold of him. Now, he has been coming to my field all year and easily weighed 150-170#.....in the time since he got attacked he easily lost 70 pounds. The leg was so infected i could smell it from 20 feet. The local DNR officer gave mer permission to cull him. Shame too, in a couple more years he wouldve really been something special. His toes were at least 5 inches long from where he wasnt moving around to wear them off. Truly sad and a waste since we couldnt eat him.

One shot at 20 feet with the Henry 44 mag. 300 grain XTP right in the pump. He jumped up and fell over sideways into the river. darn i hate coyotes.

I like coyotes. They make great "reactive" targets...

The deer bothers me but at the same time it doesn't. It's just how nature works. But growing up on a ranch I've seen calves torn up before they were even done.bwimg born. Leaves an impression on a guy.

Coyotes are a target of opportunity that I rarely pass on. Same goes for feral dogs and cats.

Yep. That's what I'd do too.

Nature is a heartless mistress, but putting an end to suffering is always the right thing to do.

Sad, but hopefully he'll be the end result for the coyotes as they come back to feed on his carcass!
