Loading and Shooting the 32 COLT / Marlin 92

Post by rbertalotto »

Wrote another article to my web site about my trials and tribulations loading and shooting the obsolete 32 COLT cartridge in a Marlin 92 rifle.
Hope you enjoy it!

That is sure a good looking rifle, I know you must be real proud of it. I bet it is a ball to play with.

I "had" a Model 1892 and a Model 92 both in 32 cal with rimfire and centerfire firing pins . I was fortunate and ran into 200 brand new pieces of REM/UMC 32 Long Colt when I first got the gun as well as a mold for the 90 grain heel bullet .
Wisners hooked me up with a couple extra center fire pins . Initially I loaded 2.5 grains of Unique in an untrimmed case and it did very well however they were to long to go thru the action . Later I trimmed the cases and only used 2 grains of Unique and still got acceptable 25 yard groups . My intention was to head shoot a couple squirrels which I eventually did . By the way well as I can remember my load clocked something like 950 FPS thru the Model 92 .

A couple years back at the Baltimore gun show I let both rifles go as well as a period correct Lyman tang sight . And my reloading stuff went to a gentleman on here .

That is a very nice lever rifle and a dedicated effort to make accurate ammo and it looks like it paid off. You sure did not take the easy way out. Congratulations.

That's cool - never saw anyone reload heel-base bullets....!

I was having difficulty crimping before I got the adjustable height shell base from Old West Bullet Moulds. Works pretty nice!
