Knife work

Post by hondo1892 »

Putting the finish on the turkey gun I'm building and since its a hurry up and wait job I've been doing some knife work in between. I had the blades already forged out so I just needed to finish them. The top knife hasn't been heat treated yet and the other two still need work on the handles. I kind of went to the dark side with the little drop point. I usually don't make modern looking blades but thought I would branch out a little. All the blades are 1084 steel with antler, maple, pewter and brass for the handles.

The lower two are nice enough, but I REALLY like that uppermost knife !

That silver (?) band around the handle is very distinctive. :)

Beautiful work! How do you heat treat a blade after the handle is installed?

Wish I had a tiny lick of your talent! Love the blade on the antler-handled knife.

Yeah, I really like that little one with the antler handle. Just the size you really need. And it looks really old.

The top knife is the only one that needs heat treating and the handle is just fitted but not attached. I always fit everything to the blade before heat treating it.
