You can either keep a little dial rod in your shirt pocket or sometimes a little honing out of the cylinder walls will help them slide out when tilted back.

If you are a storekeeper you can push them out with your pencil.

If you're a storekeeper and you haven't settled your immediate problem with five rounds and you have to reload...you may have bigger issues.

On granddad's old Colt you just keep the muzzle tipped up and they fall right out. Like Hawkeye2 suggests, I keep a pencil in my pocket when I shoot it but I don't think I ever needed it. 'Course you keep the pressures pretty low in the loads for these old babes.

Another thing they used to use when these originally came out was the cylinder pin.

I can see a non issue with low pressure loads.
I was thinking the old school bottleneck rounds with a full house black powder load.
The bottlenecks are famed for making a nice tight gas seal.
Why do I think about things like this

So if ya didn't have a pencil on you, you better had a screwdriver on hand to remove the basepin :D

You'd think they'd just carry a longer screwdriver, but apparently that was not always the case!

This does get me thinking again how I want one of these. The shortest barreled SAA I have is 3.5" (and it has an ejector rod). Would like one with a 2" barrel. Just don't want to spend a fortune getting one!

casastahle,

Dang that's purty! Ventorino has an article in the current American Handgunner, (or maybe Guns) about the Sheriff's and Storekeeper models. Seems his wife Ivon, carries one most of the time with shot shells for rattlers.

The 32 H&R, Ruger Vaquero 2.5" barrel that I had Gary Reeder do for me does not have ejector rod/housing. Just tip gun up and the fall out mostly, If one gets stuck I have been able to easily get it out with my finger nails. Have not had any problems yet.

Probably the best way, is after you have fired it, box it up and send it to me. A friend of mine used to carry a short, thin piece of rubber hose in his shirt pocket. It wouldn't break like a pencil or scratch the blueing.
