Remington moving some operations to Bama

Post by Bridger »

Anybody else heard about it yet? We'll gladly take gun companies here, and have very few gun regs compared to other states. It's on yellow hammer news.

I note with some interest that Southern values, culture and economics have done the Yankees in, 150 years after the last angry shot was fired. It took a while, but it has happened.

The only downside I see, is for the fortunes of however many NY employees lose their jobs - either outright, or because they can't/won't relocate.

That's what happened to many Thompson/Center employees, after the S&W take-over - and also, I'm sure, to many CT/Marlin workers.

New York's recent "SAFE ACT" that lawmakers recently passed at the urging of Gov. Cuomo made it illegal for Remington to sell some of their products in the state where they manufacture them. The Governer also recently made comments something to the effect that New York didn't have room for Bible reading gun folks. I say Remington made a good move. There are plenty of folks in Alabama that will welcome them with open arms. New York will soon be a twin economically to California. Run into the ground by business killing libtards.

Nothing I see in today's announcement mentions a move.
It's referred to as an expansion, expected to create 2000 new jobs in Huntsville in the next ten years.

I wouldn't read too much into it re Remington "leaving" New York.

We'll see in a couple years, there may be no reason to stay. Other than maybe some loyalty to the workers/town…. or perhaps one of those deals where if they keep the site open, everything is honky dory. But if they close, they're responsible for cleaning up the site after almost a hundred years of industry there. There've been a few companies in NY that have kept a token presence just for that reason. Just a theory.

Upstate NY is an empty shell, the state has systematically driven out big business for the last 50 years, and they continue to do so today. Their answer is to come up with schemes, rather than to address what they've done to drive them all away, they waste millions of dollars advertising in other states that "NY is Open for business". Offering tax free opportunities for 10 years, ignoring that fact that even tax free, NY is still oppressive awful place to try and run a business, and they're a huge part of that reason.

Yep, I'd imagine the industrial cleanup would be substantial. :)

This may open an escape path, or it may remain just another plant, like the one in Kentucky.
Just didn't want too many people reading too much into it.
When I asked my contact at Remington today I got the governor's PR release back & nowhere does it say anything about moving. Just expansion.

Yes the emperor is spinning it as "No jobs lost."

Yeah, for now. Quietly omitting "No jobs gained."

I sort of know people that work in Ilion, and I feel bad for them. But I certainly don't blame the company.

A lot of people want to spin it and blame the greedy union. Which is partially true. But the union workers don't want more money so they can buy vacation homes in the south of France. They want to be able to pay for fuel oil. And food. Try and pay their sky high property taxes. Again, the blame in large part falls back on the state.
Slow is just slow.

If one state doesn't want their business, another will be glad to woo them south. Hooray for Remington. By the way, what was wrong with their teeth?

Beretta U.S.A. is moving out of Maryland to Tennessee...no need to do business in a gun-unfriendly environment...I think in the end Remington Arms will be moving out of NY, I also think that Henry will be moving out of NJ to Wisconsin where they purchased another facility...and if you noticed Ruger HQ now resides in New Hampshire...just waiting to see what Kimber is going to do, and I think Stag ARMS (EBG) is moving out of Connecticut to either Texas or S. Carolina... :(

Steyr Arms has moved it's new headquarters to Bessemer, AL.

Steyr's parent company is Steyr-Mannlicher, and is also the sole US importer of Steyr, Merkel and Anshutz sporting arms.

IBM is staying in NY only because they lay people off and then Albany offers them huge tax incentives to rehire the laid off people.
