OT-I'm still kicking. Gun shop update.

Post by jengel »

I just thought I would update some of you that remember me from about a year ago. I have not had time to get on Levergusn.com since I started a gun shop in NW Kansas called The Great Outdoors Gun Shop. I have been very busy selling guns and doing gunsmithing. I work about 60 hours a week and don't get any breaks during the day. Since we opened on May 1, we wil have sold about 1200 guns. I am still able to get the black guns and bulk ammo. Here are a few pics of the shop. I will include a pic of a levergun just for you guys. :D

Holy smokes! Do you need any friends? Just kidding. You betcha I remember you. Good to see you're still around. I remember when you first jumped into that endeavor. Sounds like you're doing good. That's great. Now, if you have a website we can all peruse we'll take some of that ammo off your hands. Reloading components would be great too. How you doing in that department? Looks like you had a bunch of bullets.

PS - Nice looking '95.

Thanks guys. I am still able to get reloading components for now. I am out of primers except for 209s. Primers are being allocated from the distrubutors and I can't just order them up. Since we buy a LOT of stuff from certain distributors, they call me on some of the good stuff. I have a couple of Lipseys .44 specials in stock, a LCR coming in and we usually get a few Judges a month. Shortly before the bulk ammo craze, we had over 300,000 rounds of bulk ammo in stock. Now, we have less than 100,000 rounds. It is really hard to get stuff like 9mm, .40, .45, .22lr and of course .223. 7.62x39 is impossible right now. Hodgdon is about 1-2 months backlogged on powder orders right now.

I have a .270 WSM Model 70 FW that I ordered in for a guy a couple of weeks ago and he ended up getting one somewhere else. I can't remember how much I have on it but the .44 Specials are $489 and I have two with consecutive serial numbers. 8)

You have more reloading components and ammunition than almost all of shops, in the Portland area, combined!

Jengel, I think of you sometimes when family travels through that area. The shop looks great. I reckon that the hours get long being away from the family but you are doing what you wanted and that counts too.

Thanks. It's hard for people not to buy something. I have stuff from a Sig Sauer 556 SWAT to a Uberti 1866 short rifle. We have the best selection of guns anywhere around. We have over 800 guns in stock. Atwood is only about 30 miles north of I-70 from Colby, KS. I live in Colby so I drive an hour a day and work 10 hours a day.

Jim,

Looks good. That is my kind of set up. You really picked the right time, as it turns out, to get into the business. Quick return on the capital investment and you have the diversity of product line to carry on when the inevitable downturn. Have been "going to" write for a while but felt I shouldn't intrude knowing you were working hard.

I've got to ask, are those Lipsey's .44 FTs 4-5/8" guns?
Sincerely,

Jengel,
Good to hear from ya, and great pics of the shop and wow... so much better supplied than some of our local shops also.

Uh... how you set on lead round balls? I use .375, .520 & .526... and in those pretty red 'n white boxes, too! Hopefully I'll be thru Kansas in a couple of days... wantin' to get from Denver to Joplin... if they leet me, I should pass near enough to ya!

I have a couple of boxes of .375 but none of the others. The closest I come is .530 round balls. Sorry. It would be great to see you. Atwood is 30 miles north of I-70 from Colby. From there, you can take Highway 36 to east of Denver and then take I-70 the rest of the way in.

I wish I had an original. It is one of the new Century Arms Imports. It has the sniper scope on it too. I have a bunch of ARs right now. A few weeks or so ago, I sold 9 of them to a gun shop in Fort Collins CO because I had an excess and they had none. I actually get several smaller gun shops that get stuff from me because they can't get it. :D

Wow! jengel, if I promise to give up a good moose hunting spot, and tell you where to find good fishing, would you please move your gun store to Fairbanks, AK? We have the big box stores that sell guns now, which don't really count and 2 smaller real gun stores, but we need a nice big one like yours.
