OT - Got a New Bike

Post by Swampman »

This isn't mine, but it's exactly like mine. It's fast. I sold a few guns to pay for it.

Very nice !!! Show yours when you can.

Mine's 31 years old but it can still get me in trouble - got stopped last year going a little (OK a lot) over the posted limit (but I had a really good excuse) - told him, "I try not to hold traffic up". He got this funny look like he was having trouble keeping a straight face - guess he hadn't heard that one before.

When he returned from his vehicle with my license and papers, he was cracking up, saying he expected to find a young punk speeder on a new sport bike and not an 81 year old man on a 30 year old bike. Let me off with a verbal warning and I promised to do better in the future.

I've had senior discounts before all over but never for traffic violations - LIFE IS GOOD !!!

I've been riding for nearly 40 years. I started before I was legal. I've been stopped dozens of times, but I've never gotten a ticket. The problem with this one is that is doesn't like 5th gear unless you're doing at least 60. Here are some of the others I've owned.

We have a lot in common - I got my first 1/3 interest in an ancient (something out of the 1920s) HD in 1940 (shift on tank and left foot worked clutch) when my 2 roomates and I squandered a total of $15 for the bike. Kick starter was broken so it took two of us to start it - one to push - the other to get it in gear - we were 14 years old but lived WAY out in the country where things like titles and licenses weren't big. Wouldn't go very fast with two-up so probably saved our lives since helmets weren't big then either.

That 1977 R100S BMW is my 16th bike and third Beemer and the best handler and bike I've ever owned and I don't go into 5th gear unless I'm riding over 60 consistantly. My old riding bud was another surgeon but, he cashed in his chips some years ago so I ride solo now.

A different surgeon got me to promise to put the seat belt sticker on my dash - he was pushing the law mandating seat belt use. I use belts and helmets but don't think the state should tell me to do so. I reported to him the sticker was on my dash and he didn't ask - I think he knew - he didn't approve of motorcycles either.

Jeff Cooper always said that it isn't variety that is the spice of life - it's the PERCEPTION of facing danger or risk that is.

YMMV

That's definetly my favorite H-D product right now. I don't know if I could get used to the riding position though. Here's my ride; a 2005 XB9sx:

Nice Nightster. I love what Harley has done with some of their new production bikes, this being one of them. Here's my new Ride as of August last year.

Here's mine, a '99 with 16k. Runs great, just a classy ride, but I'm putting mine up for sale. Most of my riding days are over 100 miles (commuting) and my lower back is complaining.
Asking $4,200, includes windshield, bag, custom seats (awesome passenger seat!), rear rack, sissy bar, factory and aftermarket slip-ons, Screamin' Eagle and stock intakes, forward controls and stock midmount hardware. The tank says 883, but the previous owner (a BMW bike mechanic) installed factory 1200 jugs and pistons.
PM me if interested, I'm in eastern Pa between Allentown and King of Prussia.

CHICKEN STRIP!!!!!!!! Now you've gone and done it, Nath! Have you found anything smaller you can shoot those poor old, endangered foxes with such as straight pins or feathers perhaps? :P Swampman, I'm sorry this thread has turned so negative!

Great bike! I think the Nightster is one of the best ideas they've had in a long time. I especially like the black rims and side-mounted license plate. Here's a shot of my `06 Street Bob.

Until I can get somthing reasonable, I may just havee to settle for one of these bolt-on engine/geartrain kits:

Aparantly, my uncle knows where to get them and they aren't that expensive (all things considered)

I may put one on my cheap mountain-bike.

1947 WL45..Wife got me some original saddle bags for it for my B-Day..Have a Buddy Seat with the auxillary spring kit too..Restored it with HD made Mil Spec goodies for the running gear..It was stripped for hill climb when I got it..Took a couple of years to gather up all the bits..The saddle that's on it I got new old stock from a HD shop for the old stock price of $58.00 back in 85..Got footboard rubbers & rivets there too for cheap..I know it's out of oil when there's no puddle under it ;)
