WTB-ILL. 56-50 Rimfire Modified for 22 RF

#1 Post by missionary5155 » Tue Aug 01, 2017 7:48 pm

Greetings
Purchased a new to us Peabody lever carbine in 56-50 rim fire. There have been several outfits like Dixie that have sold 56-50 rim fire cases modified (adapted) to use 22 rim fire cases as the firing case. If you have any of these adapted 56-50 rim fire cases sitting about and would like to turn them loose to be used in a 1864 Peabody then jab those keys our way. They can be stained, painted, ugly, buggy but usable. Thank you !

Even rarer would be a Peabody breech block already modified to fire center fire 56-60.... I would be interested.

Hi ,I was looking at a similar Carbine at Auction and before I got too far researching it, I was decided it would be out of my price range. I would Inquire with S & S Firearms Glendale, NY , Also Lodgewood is another Great resource for that type of stuff http://www.lodgewood.com/
262-473-5444 . I purchased a Centerfire Block for my 56/50 Spencer which is Actually .50 /56 being .50 Cal. from S&S so they may be able to point you in the right direction. Lodgewood also sells them . I had tried the .32 Rimfire Shells W/Round Balls with .22 blanks firing them but was not impressed with the results and later sold or traded the old warhorse.
I Hope this helps
In the event you find one let me know as that in one of the ones I'd like pick up some day , being the owner of 3 Martini Action Rifles , 45/70 , 577/450 , and a .357 Mag conv. And Some other Civil war Cartridge Carbines .
Good Luck

Greetings Oldrvr
Thank you for that info, Forgot about Lodgewood as they are where we bought our Burnside brass.
This Peabody has had a rough past. But it will all depend on the real condition of the bore. Even ugly bores can turn into reasonably good shooters.

No problem, I also had a Burnside . Bad bores are much less significant with Lg. Cal Black Powder within reasonable distances.
Paper patched Boolits will not only help accuracy but I have found that they help polish the Bore. Paper patching will help keep from lead fowling and make up for allot regarding Bore inconsistency.
