Never saw this post because it wasn't stickied up top as usual...

Anyway, we didn't have our usual lever gun rifle silhouette match this month, so I decided to get the 45-70 out and shoot this postal match with it instead. I figured that the black on this target was just slightly bigger than a chicken, and I usually do pretty good on those. Used my standard silhouette load - 330gr RNFP over 16 grains Trailboss in Starline brass. Pretty happy with the results.

I apologize for the delay in getting this stuck up here, we were out of the country for about a month and am just now getting back on the computer.

Earl and a couple of grandkids took the Levergun challenge today: temp about 75 degrees and a nice little overcast (mostly smoke) to make the lighting really nice.
As you can see I really whumped up on these young'uns. And I should note that neither kid complained about the green fiber-optic front sights being too bright for young eyes. Rossi 357 with the 24" octagon barrel and Marlin 336SC in 30/30, a Lyman and a Redfield receiver sight.

Stopped off at the range on the way home from work so I could post a pistol score. My standard silhouette loads of 115gr plain base cast over 4756.

Looks like I have work to do on the rifle caliber...

Had our monthly 22 and pistol cartridge lever gun silhouette shoot today, so I brought along a rifle that I just installed an MVA soule sight on to get 50 and 100 yard settings. Set up a target stand at the pig line and after sighting in shot three attempts at the postal match during my third relay down time. The rifle is a Marlin 32-40 built in 1902, shooting a 180gr plain base over 14gr 4227. I'm really liking this 115 year old rifle, and will be shooting it more often in the rifle caliber silhouette matches.

Great shootin' there Baja! That's your 4 allowed entries for the month... I imagine that 97-4X will be mighty hard to beat! That's assuming you want to keep that one, and toss out the other two...

Guess I went to the school for the technically declined. It took me quite a while to figure out how to post this. I highlighted the seven at nine o clock.

greetings,

squeezing in a pistol caliber at the last minute.
yesterday I took my brand new Henry 357 mag carbine to the range for the first time.
after fiddling around & getting it (more or less) sighted in, I gave it a whirl.

score:83 - 1X
factory buckhorns, which aren't too kind to my old eyes!
PMC 158 gr JSP
no sling

all in all, I was happy with my first range trip!

Merle,

Yep, 83, 1-X. Thanks for participating.

Baja Traveler is the big winner this month! Congratulations! Great shooting with both rifle and pistol calibers in your rifles! I'll get the September match post together later today. This will be my last month of administering it, I figure I gave it a year... I don't want to hog all the limelight! Volunteers are invited to take over beginning in October!
