Anyone own a Heritage Rough Rider .22?

Post by wecsoger »

I see that Rural King has 'em for $129, not too bad for a little .22 single action.

more info, here:

https://www.rkguns.com/heritage-rough-r ... r22b6.html

However...

Don't really like the 6 and a half inch barrel, so I'd probably whack it back to 5 or so.

I've read the reviews on-line but does anyone here personally own one?

Comments, criticisms, better ideas? (please don't say to buy xxxx for more bucks, I'm just contemplating a cheap kit gun)

Had one with the birdshead grips for several years a while back. The thing worked surprisingly well and was reasonably accurate. I think I just got tired of the pot metal. I am sure it is still out there working.
It was this one. A little heavy for size.

The internetz (always reliable, yes?) seems to say the Rough Riders have an aluminum frame, that's good enough for a .22.

Reviews on the Chiappa do speak of the so called 'pot metal'.

I don't know about the deal on this particular one with the .22 mag cylinder. Talk on that is all over the place. For the price, I can do without the conversion.

Still waffling on this. Would be neat to have, but I've got a Ruger or two that work just as well.

My son's had a strange frame-mounted safety we weren't fond of.

"20% the quality of a Single-Six at half the cost..."

Still....I'd not buy a Single-Six to keep in the truck or tackle -box....but I would do that with a Heritage.

It worked ok and was an 'ok' gun....just not a Ruger....

If I only had one 22 LR revolver it would be a Single-Six, but the second one would either be a Charter Arms Pathfinder [DA] or a Heritage [SA]. Probably the Charter Arms just for the DA feature, plus it is a great gun (i have had one for 20 years).

The third 22 LR would be a NAA 22 LR 'Pug' with the 22 WRM cylinder, cuz it is SO concealable...

But the FOURTH might be a Heritage like my son's....it is a great 'truck gun'.

I have one and my son has one. No they are not expensive nor do they have great sights. Ours do work each and every time. For the price, they are fine for something which you might leave under the seat of a truck. Once you have fired it a few times, you can figure out where it hits. Accuracy is fair.

I have one and it's fine.

Accuracy is good with 22 LR. Trigger is okay. Sights are good. Grips could
be more comfortable, but are fine with the 22LR.

Can't remember if I've even used the 22 MAG cylinder. Must have done at
some point - just can't remember in my dotage!

Frame-mounted safety is funkadelic. It works, but I don't really use it.

I've shot a buddy's single six, and that's a altogether a much nicer gun.
Someday I'll get one! Maybe with the 10" barrel....

I've got a vintage Ruger Single Six w/both cylinders (and original red felt bag for the extra cylinder). I picked it up used in '69 and there is no way I'm gonna "toss it in the seat of my truck or in the glove box". For that I might pick up a Rough Rider as a "utility" gun and when I do take my Ruger shooting, I baby it (not shooting, but handling)...

Howdy!

My first post here!

I own a Heritage Rough Rider as well, bought it just a few months ago. Mine is the 6.5 inch barreled version, with both Long Rifle and Mag cylinders. I've shot it quite a bit with each cylinder (many hundreds of rounds with .22 long rifle) and though it's mechanics won't win any awards for "swiss-watch like" precision, it's a fine gun for the price and has exceeded my expectations. As for accuracy...it's as accurate as I am shooting one handed.

It does appear to have some kind of alloy frame with one of those "sprayed on" or "baked on" finishes. Likely cast to keep costs down. But it sure seems beefy enough. The rest of the parts appear steel and the bluing seems to wear well. I use a cheap nylon/cordura holster and the gun has no wear marks.

I bought it to more or less replace a pretty worn out old Excam Italian import .22 that I've owned for over 30 years that's really been through the mill. I like that the Heritage is made in the USA.

We bought our Heritage through Gallery of Guns as one of their "weekend specials" at a good price, and we like it enough to be considering purchasing another when we find one in the same price ballpark.

Welcome C Lee,
That's a good report and a great perspective. Every gun we own doesn't need to be capable of winning a gold medal in the Olympics

Thanks!

I did forget to mention, though, that the pistol is also just great fun to shoot!
