NOTICE: Ruger Mark IV Pistol Safety Recall

Post by Pete44ru »

If you have a Ruger Mark IV pistol of ANY configuration, check the SN prefix.

Ruger is recalling 2016 & 2017 Mark IV pistols, including 22/45's, with SN prefixes of "4" or "WBR" for a safety defect.

Mark IV pistols with a SN prefix of "5" are not effected by this recall.

Seems like sometimes it is best to stick with the basics - I wondered if their making the easy-to-take-apart model might start making things too complicated to work right.

Hopefully this will be a clean and final 'fix' and no problems beyond that. Rugers are generally great, and I have several - but - simple is usually better when it comes to machines.

I have an old P85. It was recalled for something to do with the hammer and firing pin when it was new to the market. No issues since then. Based on my personal experience, I wouldn't expect the new .22 to have any more issues.

I never understood what some people find so complicated about assembling the Mark I.

Hmm, never recalled my Mk I. Must mean that they did things better in the early days of the company when it was fairly small and run by better qualified personnel, not to mention management.

I got my MKII Gov'mt Target in '89....No problems. I don't care for the new ones. This is the one I'd use if someone bet me to hit a pop can at 100 yards....

I have a Mark II with the tapered barrel and the rear sight that is drift adjustable for windage. It is no trouble to disassemble and reassemble. It has never had any issue, and it has never missed. All misses by it are operator error. Just read and follow the instructions as to when to tilt the barrel up and when to pull the trigger, and it goes together and works every time.
