Poor dog

Post by GunnyMack »

My 11 yr old yellow lab has had the worst health/ luck of any dog I've ever had.
Had to have emergency spay few years ago,$2300, broken about 6 teeth and now she needs to have an eye removed!

Dogs, they can give so much pleasure and so much grief, sorry to hear about your Labrador.

This eye issue has been ongoing for the past month. 6 different medications have not produced any real results. I was more or less expecting this to become surgical fix. Thanks for your support!

Oh man. That poor dog. Prayers for healing and continuing protection sent. I believe that GOD does care for our pets. If not, then why make them and us where we care so much about each other?

Dixie goes in for her eye surgery tomorrow morning.
A chest X-ray will confirm is she can have the surgery, seems the tumor could be a melanoma, if it has gone to her lungs then they can't do the surgery and I'll have to make the call.

Good for Dixie. I have two labs and a dobie. I would rather have a broken toothed, one eyed lab, than most other dogs, AND DAM NEAR ALL PEOPLE I KNOW.

Well, Dixie is spending the night at the vets office which is ok because the vet tech LOVES Dix and Dix LOVES the tech so I'm not too concerned...
Seems that when they took her out to pee she got excited enough to cause a blood clot to come loose. That was about 10 minutes before I got there to pick her up. There they sat with a pack of frozen peas in a towel on her face trying to get it stopped. About 20-30 minutes later the vet called me and said all was well but they want her to stay. That's fine, let her start healing before she gets home to my other 2 knuckleheads start working on her.

Oh and the vet said she ate very well so now she has a full belly to sleep off!

Love always has a cost.

At age 13, our male Chessie was hit by a car and had to lose a leg. $3,500 later, he lived 2 more happy years, mostly with mamma in the kitchen.

We adopted a blind and deaf pup, a rough coated Jack mix. Love her to death; this dog has helped me out of severe emotional crisis. Herniated a spinal disc, $8,000 later she is limited in her mobility but still here to love and be loved.

I can't take it with me. I'd rather die poor than use money as an excuse to cut a precious life short.

The swelling has gone down , Dixie is feeling better! She has figured out how to scoop up a toy so she can carry it, that is how I know she is feeling better!

Day 4 and Dixie is doing great! I can say that her eye was in NO WAY effecting her appetite! If anything the loss of her eye has made her even more hungry! But then again she is a Lab and Labs love their food!

Man that is a unlucky pup. I'm always amazed at how much they can take and never whimper or cry. I hope everything goes well for her. My best bud is having kidney problems and I'm hoping it gets fixed with the meds he is on. Give Dixie an extra treat or two for being such a good trooper.

Vet just called with biopsy results of Dixie's eye. Yes it was a Melanoma tumor but not an aggressive melanoma!
She is doing great, hardly misses the eye, only a few times she has turned or walked into things. She stopped wearing the E collar over the weekend. Stitches come out in a few more days.

Went through the same thing with my Lab years ago, seems they may be prone to it.Mine evidently lost both eyes but still carried on for a fairly long time.Prayers for both of you.
