Oh man... Lost another great one...

Saw them at UMass at the Spring Concert 1982... My bass player got us backstage as he used to tour with several of the road crew (also as a roadie).

Oh well, now I know what music I'll be listening to while reloading tonight...

Just had to add a couple of pix of the man...

Loved his music -- and that awesome Hammond B3 organ with the Leslie rotating speaker -- Oh man, what a sound!

( I used to tour with a cut-down Hammond M3 with a small Leslie... Tube amps in all! )

Have been a fan since I saw them play a free concert at Cheehaw State Park in Albany, Ga. I think it was Oct. or Nov. of 1971. Wish I still had the Allman Joys tape I bought that day, bet it would be valuable today, but it got eaten by my tape player like so many cassettes did.

I thought their sound was gone when Duane died but then "Brothers and Sisters" came out and Gregg tore up the keyboards to distract us from Duane's missing slide. Dickie is no slouch, but he's no Duane Allman.

"Ain't My Cross to Bear" was the evening shift theme song at my work center in the Avionics building. I had the portable tape player and it was my job to get it playing before the Chief headed out the door. He never said anything, just shook his head and closed the door behind him.

I remember stopping in to a little bar on Bradenton Beach in Florida one night back in 1979-1980, and chatting with this tall blonde guy. He introduced himself and we talked about his band playing against a radio station in a softball game the next day, he invited me out but I had planned on scuba diving the next day. He got up with the bar band, grabbed a strat and they played "Red House" Thank you for the music and the beer, RIP Greg Allman!!
