Is it just me or does the fore end look suspiciously like it is off of a model 12? I'm no Winchester expert, but that just doesn't look right and the seller didn't fess up to it either....

Model 12 and model 97 production overlapped for many years so I'm guessing Winchester would build you whatever you wanted. That is some very high grade wood and just looks too good to be aftermarket.

The last 97 production Year was 1957. I would assume this to be a Winchester special order custom piece. And a 16 ga. also !
Notice the short make tube also. It is also set up for sling use.
