Random video from Monday's ride through the Andes

Post by AmBraCol »

Here's a video tossed together from random selections from several hours worth of riding through the Andes last Monday...

Eje Cafetero - Alto de Letras - Cundinamarca

Very cool. What is the elevation where you were riding?

reminds me a lot of eastern KY. although with less coal trucks and house trailers. (grin)

please - less cuts and longer scenes. audio/video production was something I did in a past life - even got a degree (for what that's worth now) in it.

motorcycle ride videos need less transitions since we're all looking at the scenery, traffic ahead (even though we're not driving), what's in people's front yards, etc.

would like to see more, and you don't even had to fancy them up.

Highest point was about 12,190 feet on this ride. I thought La Linea was higher, but IIRC it only goes up to 10,300 or so. Low point on this ride was around 720 feet, down in the Magdalena valley. So you can see there was a lot of climbing, and plenty of downhill as well.

Going up took off at around 4,500 feet, climbed to 12,190, down to 720, up to 6,450, down to 2650, up to 10,150 , down to 8,300. Return trip was, of course, the reverse. All elevations are approximate, the Rever chart isn't that easy to read.

This was just something I tossed together using GoPro's free download video editing software. Quick, I think it's called. Not too impressed with it. This is the first time I've tried it. They supply sound tracks - but then want to get add revenue off them. So ended up redoing the audio on YouTube itself. There's about 6 hours of video, give or take, and I've not had time to really sort through it. Need to get the "good" parts - like coming around a curve to a semi passing another semi on a curve leaving just the shoulder as an escape hatch for oncoming motorcycles (ie: yours truly). Also would like to get some of the weather shots (riding through foggy rain is SO much fun) and some of the scenery. This trip has some spectacular scenery - but the chest mount for my camera doesn't pick it up much. My flipface helmet doesn't allow for a helmet cam so am not sure how I'm going to improve the actually filming part. The editing - as you so aptly notice - leaves a lot to desire, too.

Did you, by the way, check out any of the other videos on my channel? There's some with less transitions and a few simple cell phone captures of short duration and zero editing.

Up to almost 13,000 ft. Cool! I like the mountains for the scenery. I am guessing that the palm trees were down around the 720 ft elevation. It is no wonder that the GOD of the Israelites is known as a GOD of the mountains. Of course, he is in charge of it all. But, the mountains are the most majestic parts of this planet.

We lived up on the coast for a couple of years. Sure felt good to get back to where we could see mountains. Each day starts off with a scan east, towards El Nevado de Ruiz - an active volcano by which I rode but which doesn't show in the videos due to the clouds that day. Yeah, I'm a mountaineer at heart and am thankful for this Rumbler that's built to ride the twisties with aplomb.

The one that surprised me is the sugar cane train video. Over 300 views while most of them are in the single or double digits...

Here's a video from last November, finally got around to trimming it up a bit and uploading. This is part of a 2,300 km or so ride and I was heading back south from Santander. Don't know what the irritating squeak and other noises are, suspect it's the chest rig for the camera.

Who can tell me what the car is on the back of the tow truck towards the end of the video?

Pretty cool Paul! As a guy who has never been out of this country (except Canada one time) I always visualize other less fortunate countries with nothing more than dirt roads and shacks and trash all over. Watching your video , that could be "anywhere, USA".

That's a gray area. When in Colombia, do as the colombians do...

Considering Colombia's traditional source of vehicles (France figures heavily) that's a pretty good probability. Thanks!

Tunnel Vision - leaves a lot to be desired

I'll see about putting up some dirt road for you... the "Tunnel Vision" link above is video of a couple of the 14 tunnels or so along one of the most beautiful routes I've ridden so far - much of which is dirt or dilapidated asphalt (the dirt is MUCH better to ride on, believe me!)
