I wasn't the only turkey getting wet this Morning.

Post by EdinCT »

I went out back this morning hoping to beat the rain but it started just after I set up my blind. I was thankful I was inside the blind but the wind and fog did dampen my hopes of seeing a gobbler. I had two hen decoys and a full strut gobbler out in a 10 acre field about 25 yards in front and called about every 10 to fifteen min. At 7:40 I saw three red heads (turkey type) running through the grass and got my gun up. I picked the only long beard out of the three and shot him at just over 30 yards when he stopped and looked toward the blind like I owed him money. I had to convince myself to go, then to stay out but I am glad I did. I switched to using a over under 12 ga with a turkey choke in the bottom barrel and a imp modified in the top for when they get a little too close.

Nice bird!
Blind sure does make fowl( pun intended) weather a lot easier to hunt in.
Can't beat an O/U for versatility!

Excellent job. Yeah, that combo of chokes gives you some options. Our season ended the first of this month so it's wait 'till next year for me.

I'd love to have a O/U That had a 12 gauge barrel and the other one set up for inserts in 218 Bee (or 22 Hornet or 22 TCM), 32-20 (or 32 FedMag), and 45 Colt or 500 S&W.

Glad you got your bird... 8)

.

Congrats on a nice bird, Ed ! . :)

And, here, I thought my Son was the only one who stuck it out in the rain (he's never used a blind - just portable treestands).

Don't you just love the smell of a dead, wet gobbler over your shoulder on the mile walk back to camp?

I have to admit carrying the bird and blind\decoys made me a little tired :P . Nice Jake and good sized also.
A young man at work shot a 26 lb bird opening day weekend on his Uncles farm! I told him it might be the best he ever gets

Nice turkeys guys. Ed when you have that much stuff you need one of those carts to carry everything. I like hunting without blinds but they are nice on wet days. It took four birds for me this year before I connected. I lost my rear tape on rear sight and had only the tape on front sight which is about three times as hi as the bead. I kept shooting under the birds. Got rid of the tape on sight until I can get a new set.
