Great customer Service

Post by charlielima »

We all enjoy & expect reasonable customer service, but when we get some that is way above board, I think I need to "pass the word", as we said in the Old Corps.
I just got me a new Winchester 1873 44-40. Needing bullets to try out, & following info in a recognized book on black powder 44-40 I ordered a box of Lyman 200 gr bullets & ask for BP lube, sized .428 from Montana Bullet Works. Box was labeled correctly so I did not question it. Loaded up & went shooting, high wind conditions wont do bench rest groups, but mine were non-existant (Condition of new barrel definitely not a help, more info on that if anyone interested). Any way got home & went looking on MBW's web page & found that the bullets were not Lyman but RCBS (only 1 grease groove, not 2). I contacted MBW & explained the problem, their response was 1- a sincere apology, 2 told to not bother shipping bullets back, just use them if possible for other loads, 3 a new box of correct bullets with SPG lube would be sent in about a week or so. :D
2 days later I got an email the correct lyman bullets with SPG lube were sent. I had them in about another 3 or 4 days.
Now THAT is what I call exceptional customer service. I would like to say that if anyone needs some quality cast bullets Montana Bullet Works should be at the top of the list, By the way, their 295 & 335 grain bullets for the 480 Ruger are great stuff also.

Don't you just love it when a company takes customer satisfaction so seriously?

I ordered from a custom caster years ago, Waynd Douda, ordered .338 200 gr, sent 8 mm. I never checked them, first one I put in case neck fell into the case! Then I started measuring them, all were .323. I called him and he sent me another box free of charge. I melted those 8mms down for my 25-20.
Yes it's wonderful that some companies still treat their customers the way they should!

What's the deal on the condition of the barrel?
bore was extremely rough. My 1866 Trapdoor 50 govt has a smoother bore. First day of serious shooting I quit shooting 3 shots to sight in (black Powder, FFg, WLR primer) due to wind going from not much to 8 - 12 with gusts probably 15+, after 9 shots I almost could not get cleaning rod down the barrel. Took several hours cleaning at home to get any where near a clean patch out of bore. Don't have a Hawkeye scope but a cheaper version. Tool marks all over the place. Since I have had similar problems on other barrels (Mil surplus, Other factory barrels, etc) I ordered a firelapping kit from midway. Rifle now shoots very good, In fact I was trying out a different load the other day (FFFg instead of FFg)and actually got a 3 shot group - .362, @ 75 yds (iron sights 73+ year eyeballs) and rifle now cleans faster than most of my smokeless versions.
Not very happy with Winchester barrels at this moment, but maybe I got the "first one after a weekend hangover" job.
