We've been bouncing this post to the top for several days...

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68460

Don't worry, we're doing our best to get it back to "normal".

In the meantime, the update took care of some maintenance issues. That's a good thing for those of us in the background.

Yeah, I noticed a color change and the skewed heading, but BFD! Perhaps the fellers that don't like the colors or "feminist" hues are the same ones that polish their brass to high gloss (looks over content, or like we used to say in the '60s; "all show and no go")...

Something is more than wildly different about this new software. I've been on the board multiple times in the last two days and I'm still logged in every time.

This have never happened before.

Not that I'm complaining too much.

I notice that at least from a phone you have to be in General Topics to start a New Topic. There appears no option for that in Active Topics.

Takes a bit of looking and working to get used to any new format. With the inevitable --- Ah, that's where that is., or Oh, that's how you do that.

Is it possible to have the feature that shows the original poster of a topic in the list of topics?

Again, Dave thanks for your work. And here you go, this one is to you!

Griff, I usually read that way, too. After a long day of answering the question of what time we close, or, are my prescriptions ready, which the phone system JUST TOLD the caller the answer before they could talk to me, I might start reading right to left and upside down.

It is taking some getting used to, but it is much easier to read from a mobile device. I don't do much posting from anything other than the computer....yet.

How the heck do I get rid of the annoying popup when I mark things read? It's almost, but not quite, as bad as when you tell you computer or a forum to do something and it asks if you really, really, really want to. I know it all started with folks inadvertently Formatting C. But do that once and you'll learn.

How do you tell if you read a thread? Before if you read a thread it would no longer be in bold type. Nothing changes so it is hard to make out when I check back in what threads are new and which ones I have read. Just trying figure out where I left off the last time I checked in.

It will have a new messages icon to the left if it's received any since the last time you were on that thread. The old format did too.

When you go into a forum, General Discussion for example, you can scroll down the page and look at the left side of the list of topics. You'll see a round icon with something that vaguely resembles a bell (to my eyes on my monitor). If it's yellow/orange, you've not visited that topic since the last post. If it's empty ("white") then you've visited that topic and nothing has been posted since then.

What I tend to do is click the "Mark topics read" link at the top right corner after I've read the topics that catch my eye. This keeps a shorter list of topics to read the next time I log in and it shows what's currently active with the rest of the folk here.

some great new features. up above just below the pinko banner is a spanner. Ok, a wrench. opening the drop-down gives a bookmark option and a print view option that formats for printing by stripping all the stuff you don't really want to print when you want to print. I go "print to file" and direct the doc into the folder where I want it to roost, select "pdf" format and Bang! the topic is in a readable, printable format that can be emailed, stored for centuries, or ignored. love this feature.

this change alone makes it all worthwhile. I missed the reply with quote and a kind hearted soul pointed out the obvious to me. I wonder if it's possible to make those clues a little higher contrast. for some reason veryvery light gray doesn't pop out visually against the white background. perhaps there's a contrast control slider or switch for that.

down below the last post is another option, sort direction, that allows the last post to be on top or on the bottom. another worthwhile feature. I think this was buried in the user profile space.

it takes some time to adjust muscle memory to the new trigger location. eventually the new will supplant the old and we can stop thinking about the next click again.

I suspect part of the upgrade has to do with security stuff in the application itself. The world keeps spinning anyway, and the script kiddies try to keep up with and "modernize" even the old stuff that keeps working. Just look at what they call Jeeps these days.

KUDOS to the staff and team and doers of goodness on this forum. May you all continue to thrive and flourish. Thank you'All

I keep waiting for someone to comment on a long held desire by some that was finally fulfilled in this update... so far no go. We'll have to see what we can do about the color scheme, etc. Don't know of any theme editors for PHPBB and am not confident enough to attempt tweaking it freehand.

That's a matter of the cookies and how your browser handles them. If you don't WANT to stay logged in, you can log out and then un check the box that says "stay logged in" or something to that effect when you log in again.

To my way of thinking, only if you log in from somewhere other than your office or home or if you don't trust others that have access to your computer. In my case it's just my wife and I at home and we each have our own computer so mostly I just stay logged in.

There's another side to this as well. If anything happens to me and she needs to let folks know, she can get in and post something along the lines of "This is Paul's wife and..."
