Thanks, I enjoyed that.
The slow motion of Jeff shooting the rifle indicated a bit of recoil.
It would be interesting to see him shoot the 1895 .405 and film the recoil.

The recoil on my USRAC 1895, 405 feels about double a stiff .444 load. That curved, metal butt plate don't help one little bit.....

I had the chance to spend some time with a 95 in .405 a few years back. Hornady factory ammo, 3,330 ft-lbs, it would flatten the primer. It was New Years in Maine with a foot of snow on the range and I was wearing a goose down parka. I shot off the bench and didn't find the recoil uncomfortable but it was substantial. I didn't realize how much the recoil was till I started shooting offhand and saw how much it pushed my upper body back. No question it had the most recoil of any gun I have ever shot but I'd gladly do it again. I remember running a box of .30-40's through a 95 about 30+ years ago and ending up with a pretty fair bruise on my shoulder but it was summer and I was only wearing a T shirt.

I shoot my '95 Miroku fairly regular (but not as much as I'd like), you definitely know you just touched off a .30-06 but I don't find the recoil to bad. My cheek bone starts to hurt more and sooner shooting a 94 in .30-30 than my shoulder does firing 220 grain .30-06 out of my '95.

My '95 is also a SRC but that title always gives me a grin, it's every bit as long as my more modern bolt action .30-06 and weighs the same even though the bolt gun has a scope on it.

Final thought on the Winchester 1895: If I ever win the lotto I'm going to have a custom 1895 saddle ring carbine converted to .405 Winchester. It may have been done but I've not seen evidence that Winchester ever did it originally nor that anyone has ever had it done with the reproductions. Maybe not practical but it'd sure be fun!

"If" I keep my 405, I'll have the butt cut down and a good Pus.Pad installed. That thing hits like Thor's Hammer....On both ends

Want some recoil from an 1895 .405 WCF?

Try shooting 2100 fps 400 grain Woodies from the bench! :o

OK in the field offhand, but still noticeable. Hits hard downrange too:

Crescent butt on a 405......yup...I remember that thump
Maybe that's why I still don't have one.
Theres really no need for a 405 in Florida anyway.
Haven't seen a hogzilla in years....
And I used to whack em with a 50 cal muzzleloader right behind the ear

I still think it would make a heck of a hard hitting saddle gun! Of course I don't even own a horse or a saddle but those are minor details.

Watched it.
Y'know, Jeff's only deficiency as a gun reviewer is that he can't pronounce "lever" right. :)
He says it lever, when it's really lever.
