Winchester 1886 33 WCF

Post by daisygordoninc »

Does anyone here hunt with the old 1886 33 WCF ? What would be your estimate on range with a good peep sight?
What year did they start making the 71 as replacement for them ? The price on most of them on-line is really high.

I've killed a truckload of deer, foxes, and one elk with the .33....alll back in the day. It's a solid 200 meter gun but I've never shot anything over about a hundred. Ballistically it's pretty close to the 35 Remington but has better sectional density for deeper penetration.------6

As for pricing, sure they are expensive, anything that's no longer made has a way of climbing in value.

I've really enjoyed my .33WCF. I've knocked off a couple large boar with it and neither made it more than ten feet. Bullets can be difficult to find but the Hornadys are still out there if you scrounge. I picked up two half boxes at a show recently for $12 and have managed to pick up enough brass and bullets in the five years since I bought my '86 to last my lifetime.

2ndovc, that is a slick looking rifle right there. In .33 that should be a GameGetter! ,,,,,DT

I purchased a box of .33 Winchester with 200 gr Horanady FTX from Reeds Ammo
That might add some distance with those pointed bullets.
I mentioned earlier that I killed a large moose in BC last Sept. with my Marlin 338
Marlin Express, with the same bullet. 270 yrds, one shot dead moose.
