? for our members down under ....
I saw this article and thought of you guys:
{ http://www.bordermail.com.au/story/3532 ... mat/?cs=11 }.
So, if you saw that thing climbing the wall of your house would you:
A- Scream like a 10 yo girl and run
B- Call animal control
C - Grab your lever gun, take care of the problem then call your neighbors over for a goanna on the barby?
Joe ...... who likes lizards, but that's ridiculous.

I don't think the 'authorities' want "c" to be an option - I read in the news last month that they want now to ban LEVERGUNS in Australia...

Those are pretty harmless. I'd throw a few handfuls of dirt/pebbles at it and let it go on it's way.
But, I wonder if they taste like chicken? I had iguana kabobs in Panama that were pretty tasty....

Relax.
They are non venomous.
Which is quite rare for an Australian reptile.

If he isn't raiding the chook house I'd be leaving him alone.
They are a truly awesome lizard, with razor sharp claws and teeth.
The one in the article is a Lace monitor which grows to about 6 foot 8 inch,
the Perentie is even bigger at up to 8 foot 2 inch.
Apparently these monitors are a close relative of the Komodo Dragon.
In Oz, little critters get eaten by big critters.
Here is a series of pics taken at my worksite when one of those lizards met one of our local snakes.

Nope, nothing like chicken - pretty greasy with a taste all of its own. I have only had the opportunity to try in once and that was on an Army survival course in the 70s. It was hastily cooked, without the benefit of any condiments, black on the outside and otherwise mostly red. Probably not the best way to have it. . .BlaineG wrote:Those are pretty harmless. So they made starvation seem like a viable alternative? Yep, sounds like a military mind at work!!Bruce Scott wrote:Nope, nothing like chicken - pretty greasy with a taste all of its own.
