New to me. Hopkins and Allen deluxe 22lr falling block

Post by rjohns94 »

I love a single shot 22 for chasing small game in Penn's woods. Saw this one on the Internet and had to add it to my collection. 26 inch barrel. Nice wood. Hope to get it out in the woods next week to put some lead down range.

It sure is pretty.....Just for the sake of ammo conservation, I shoot all of mine single shot anyway, and I love hammers, and hammers seem to fall for me, as well.....

Nice looking rifle. I always wanted one like that but never found one when I had play money at the same time.

Very nice!

My late father was into single-shots big time, and each of my 3 brothers and I got 2 each when he passed. He used to say:
"Beware the man with a single shot... As he'll probably make it count!"

I'm reminded of that every time I see the guys with their ARs "pray and spray" at the local range, but not hit what they were "pointing" (no, not aiming!) at...

Tight groups!

That's really neat.

I bought my son some old Stevens favorites when he was very young. I had as much fun carrying/shooting them as he did.

There's something about a light little single shot.......
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

With that 26" barrel and sub-sonic ammo it ought to be nice and quiet in the woods!

I have a stevens just like that but the receiver were the rim of the shell sets is beat in from shooting so much the empty case gets deformed and wont eject out, just rips the ejector through the brass and have to rod it out from the muzzle.I have been watching for another 1.hard to find a 22 receiver and i see 32 rim fire ones but not sure there the same. Am thinking of parting it out.

I'll bet that chamber can be fixed but if not a liner can be put into it that will give you a new chamber.

it's not the chamber when you look at the receiver were the firing pin sticks out there is a round dent around the pin were the case meets the face and is dented more on the bottom of pin then the top.and the fired shell rim bends to the bent shape and makes it stick and that's were the extractor comes out and it rips through the brass rim.so you have a shell behind the extended extractor.and poking a rod down the barrel to remove it makes the empty case hit the extractor wanting to bend it because its sticking out. sort of like a indented bulls eye around the firing pin.from years of the pounding back from the force of the back pressure beating against it. I have a picture somewhere of the receiver face and pin showing the dent will have to find it.

Johnny a good 'smith can fix that receiver. I believe the .32 receivers are different in the firing pin should be further from the centerline of the bore than a .22 to strike the .32 rim

JW - FYI, that's not a Model 14-1/2 (aka: Little Scout), which had a thumb-operated dropping breechblock.

IIRC, you have a Model 12 Marksman, which had a solid frame & tip-up barrel.

ya i was guessing when i said that till i got it our to put it back together and seen it was a marksman. It shoots and pulls the empty out now but some types ammo will just fall out when you hold the gun up and others you will brake a finger nail trying to pull it out. but the extractor dose bring it out enough to grab with all the different ammo i tried.the Winchester semi auto ammo seemed to fire and fall out the best the others seems the brass swells up and gets tight in the chamber and i cleaned it spotless and oiled it up too.
