Looks like a well made sight and wow it is actually made here in the USA. But one question, what is a merit disc?

.

IMO, it looks like a reintroduction of an older Redfield peep.

Buck - The Merit is an adjustable aperture, which can sharpen the sight picture/target, w/o swapping apertures.

Read all 'bout it:

Merit disc is a wonderful invention for the shooter with aging eyes, it has enabled me to shoot iron sights for probably 15 years after I initially lost track of my front sight.

That was my thought as well. The only thing "innovative" is their holey front sight.

But then, what's a Redfied going for these days?

They're beautiful sights, and made of steel. Very, very tempted!

I concur about the rear peep. I used a rear peep with a very fine bead front sight on my 10" sbh as a regular meat gun in Alaska. I like the idea of the front sight with a hole in it, but doubt it would resolve with my eyesight. Seems like a young eye device.

There is a trade-off for the adjustable aperture sight. The smaller size opening you use, the more detail and sharpness you get at the front sight. The tiny aperture, while probably adequate for younger eyes just gets to looking like a very bad thunderstorm is approaching. It is very dark in there on the smaller settings. Open it up a few clicks and the front sight begins to transform from a beaded black post into a dandelion which is ready to have its seeds blown off.

To summarize, the Merit is a great rear sight but in my opinion it can really be more appreciated by a youngster of 50 or so, not where I find myself, the early 70's.

There's a Redfield 70E on Ebay right now that's at $67, with 5 days to go.

I have no opinion on the front sight but that looks like a dandy peep rear.
