OT- 4-Horned Ram is Dead!

Post by 86er »

The satanic four horned ram showed himself Sunday after almost a 3 week absense. This time, a 7mm Rem Mag loaded with 160 gr Nosler Partions was nearby when he did. The first shot broadside sent him running towards the gun -he didn't know where it came from. The next shot hit him in the neck and knocked him over. He got to his feet and stood him ground but to his demise, broadside. A head shot actually hit a horn and knocked him to the ground again. He got up and started running. Shot #5 caught him behind the ear and exited under the chin on the opposite side. When he was skinned, all the 7mm bullets happened to exit. What we found were: A Sierra 150 gr .311 expanded inside his neck and making a bulge like a plumb; a 45 Colt 300 gr A Frame that bent but didn't expand found in the leg next to the bone, and a fully expanded .375 300 grain Nosler that was lodged in the brisket just in front of the shoulder. One of the entry holes is visible on the high shoulder. RIP Mr. 4-Horn.

That sucker looks like a demon! He should be stuffed and mounted for display. Along with the recovered bullets and the story of the hunts.

One really tough dude. He needs at least to have a european mount on the barn. Hard to believe he took all those hits and kept on motoring.

You can also see where his head is bulged and his ear is almost torn off on the left side (right in the photo).

I tip my hat to you Mr. 4-Horned Ram..! You put up a valiant fight to the end.!...

I can't believe 86r had shoot him that many times with a 7 Mag. Pound fer pound that's about the meanest, toughest critter I've ever heard of. Any ideas as to why he was so tough? Did his coat inhibit bullet penetration?

Are you saying he's been walking around with those 3 bullets in him from before?
And it still took multiple hits from the 7 Mag today to bring him down?
I wouldn't want to meet that thing at night with anything less than a howitzer.

So I gather the lesson here is to use a 2 bore and to bring plenty of ammo :o . I think you should turn him over to the Defense Department so they can study him and apply what they find to body armor.

Good job on finally bringing him to task. I was curious what had become of him.

That was one tough goat! I can't believe he was walking around with all that lead in him and then took so many shots from a 7mm to down him.

I think you ought to drive a wooden stake through his heart and burn the body.

My lady raises goats. Bucks usually close to 300 lbs.. One in the right spot puts them in the freezer every time. I think this story is more of a testament to proper shot placement, than an evil little old goat.

I knew some hunters who chanced upon a domestic sheep, on a forest allotment, that had been attacked by a predator, and was missing most of a hind leg, along with other injuries. They decided to put it out of its misery. It took those guys nearly a dozen rounds from various magnum rifles to write a finis to that poor sheep.

They are tough...

(or else the hunters were really poor shots.)

I once had to put a sheep ram down, the big boy took 1 1/4oz of BB int' back o head and went down, then he tried his best to get back up
The second shell held him down but he was looking at me and I guess calling me every name under the sun for a few moments!

Good shooting with that big boomer Joe.

On the other hand, a friend from Star Valley (Wyo...) had a "Jacob's Sheep" ram, that had become the terror of the homestead: bullying the guy's wife & kids, who were learning to keep their third eyes open whenever they were in the barnyard.

The family kept the ram for breeding the flock of ewes on the place, because the lambs produced good, fine wool, and the wife was a spinner.

One afternoon, the ram cornered the woman of the house in the barn, and held her "captive" for nearly two hours. The woman finally managed to distract the wooly menace, and escaped, whereupon she ran to the house, grabbed her little Colt .380 and headed back to the fence. When the ram came out to continue his attack, the gal administered a quick double-tap to the ram's brain pan and permanently settled his hash.

It's WHERE you shoot'em, not so much what you shoot'em with, I reckon.

Buck,
I still carry a Star model S in .380.
That underpowered, no good for nothing, piece of stuff round.
I think has more kills than, any other gun I own.
Well, except for my .22.

Er... I hope not, maybe he could have it mounted though.

Reminds me of a trip I took to Norway. I had some friends drop me off on a tiny island in a fjord off the coast at Grasholmen to fish for Cod. Nothing on the island but me and a herd of sheep with a very protective herd ram. This dude was demonic. Red eyes, growling, snorting, steaming wool and breath, mock charges, the whole deal. The whole Island wasn't but about 60 yards long, but this guy was determined not to let me off the beach. Luckily, he kept his distance as long as I kept mine. I wouldn't have wanted to try and chase him off with nothing but a fishing pole.

Despite the reputation that sheep have, some ruminants critters seem to have rather strong protective and survival instincts.

We had sheep growing up, and there were a couple that just had "attitude". I've seen one old ewe roll every dog that came close and chase off all coyotes. Never had a coyote kill while she was still alive (died of old age). We had a couple of Bucks that wouldn't hesitate to take down any person in the lot...except mom...she was meaner than the bucks and they knew it. We had one great big old Ramboulliet buck named George that would flat hurt you if you turned your back on him. Growing up around a flock of sheep gives you a lot different perspective than folks who have never been around them much.

So in retrospect, what would have been the best round to bring down a tough sheep like this?
