Anybody got a 358 Win load for 180 Speer?
Did not find one at the range today better than 3moa in the BLR.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Try Reloader 7, or either 4198. Check your manuals, but I believe your start to max ranges run from 40 to perhaps 44.5 grains for all three powders. These are quick burners, so please proceed cautiously. This is a good deer bullet. I always feel empowered when using it, since the weight & initial velocity equal that of a 180 grain 30-06 load.

My .358 BLR did have a Leupold mini 4X in Millett rings until recently. It now sports a fiber optic front & Williams receiver sight setup. It amazes me how fast I can get on target now. My sightin is the same as always; zero at 150 yards.
With the bigger bullets, I use TAC & magnum primers exclusively. The best performers are Sie 225 & Nosler 225 Partition at 2500 fps, & Speer 250 (standard HotCore or Grand Slam) at 2400 fps.
You're not going to believe the wound channel & penetration of these larger bullets until you put one into something large & tough. I have never recovered a .358 bullet.

Well, I use a different scope for load development. I will vary the scope depending on where I'll hunt. I have a Leupold 3-9x40 Vari-X IIc for the more open stuff and a Tasco EXP 1.5-5 for under 200 and a Trijicon 1.25-4 for late evening deep woods. Joe sold me on the Leupold QRW rings over Weaver Grand Slam bases.hemiallen wrote:Good information, thanks.
I purchased a NIB 2006 Shotshow special sst / laminated grey stocked BLR in 358, and besides shooting a few in the dirt in the BY I haven't gotten her to a range. It will be iron sights, shooting some 180 RCBS cast's and a few other loads I made, just no time to get to the range and try her out.
Is yours scoped, if so I am interested in what combo mount/ scope you have and any other loads.
I may be able to go Sunday if the 9 yrds of cement pour Saturday doesn't kill me...

Re: Anybody got a 358 Win load for 180 Speer?
Here's some data with my 356 with 180gr speers.
H4198 42gr av vel 2580fps es 23 under an inch at 50yrds
RL7 42gr av vel 2475 es 58 1 3/4 at 50 yards
I never had good luck on accurracy with RL7 and higher velocity. Slow it down and RL7 is very accurate.
