Re: Scope decision

Hmm, We're not blessed with the options you blokes have, Sydney Aus. Anyway, have ordered a Burris 2-7x35 Fullfield 11, for my 45-70, have used one before, great scope. Had a look through a Leupold 2-7, the Burris suits my eyes better. The Burris is to replace a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32, maybe me but I h...

Re: OT - Time to ban Nail Guns in Australia

The blokes dead, OK.

Not much fun for the kids that found the body or their parents.

Lets leave it at that.

I pass no judgments, that's for others.

Re: Better way to use Lee Case Trimmers

I'm certainly a fan of the Lee trimmers, 22 Hornet, 270W, 30-30, 45-70. I use a vertical drill press, running fairly slowly, similar setup to you. I sometimes put a smear of Lee's sizing lubricant on the long stem of the trimmer, sometimes not. I just batch process them, one after the other. I suppo...

Re: OT - What knives do you use for butchering?

Afternoon all, I like Green River carbon steel knives, particularly the "Sheep Skinner", not too big and it works well for me. In fact, I bought a second "Sheep Skinner" should I ever lose the original. The Ontario "Old Hickory" knives are good as well. Cheap too. Cheer...

POLITICS - The following was in my email

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, whose hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to one of the political candidates. The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, that candidate is a ...

Re: 30-30XLR vs 336

Good afternoon, I have a 30-30, 336C and an XLR 45-70. Both excellent rifles. If I was to do it over again, I would get the 30-30 in XLR. Why?: 1. I am quite tall and just find the 24" XLR easier to shoot well. 2. I prefer the bedding of the XLR, i.e. no barrel bands. It's more stable as it hea...

Re: Weaver Opinions

Evening, Before you make a decision, I suggest that you have a look through a Burris 2-7x35 Fullfield II. Particularly if you have problems with your eyesight. I don't know what they do optically, but I find them easier on the eyes than the other scopes I have tried. These include my Khales 6x and a...

Do those bullets have a canulure for crimping? Yes, but not where you want it to keep the OAL within specification. I have 250 or so upstairs in my reloading room, maybe Remington have changed them?. I use them in a Marlin XLR, they are accurate and kill well. To secure them in the case I use a Lee...

If your Remington 405's are the same as mine, they don't have a groove for a roll crimp. Not if you are using them at in an 1895, can't comment on an 1886 but would assume that the max overall length is much the same.

I use the Lee FCD, works well.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I took the XLR to a 50m indoor range this morning to sight it in. The scope is a Bushnell Banner 1.5 to 4.5 in Weaver Proview mounts. The same setup as my 336C, 30-30. The trigger was adjusted to four pounds, no creep, it will do for the moment. So far I am impres...

First 45-70

Evening all, Took delivery of a Marlin XLR yesterday, the "grey ghost". Couldn't get a blued 1895, scarce as rocking horse manure down here at present. I intend to shoot lead out of it, 405gns + 40 gns of H4895 or thereabouts. My bore solvent is Ed's Red, have used it a lot in my 30-30, ja...

Those are all nice. Personally I've always been a cheapskate and thought that a Green River knife did everything I needed to do. Rusty <>< They certainly are nice knives, would be reluctant to use them. However, my Green River "Sheep Skinners" get plenty of work. Cheers Mark
