Almost any Rossi 92 is a fairly decent pile of parts to make a good gun out of..
It will take some tweaking, stoning, polishing, fitting (and maybe a replacement part or two) to bring it up to snuff, but it can be done.
It still won't be a Winchester...

Re: Bear Protection Handguns
My dad thought the same thing until I pulled my Casull and dumped all 5 into a paper plate at 7m in less than 6 seconds from the draw. With the Casull all you have to do is hit ONCE in the "motive zone" of a bear and you can finish it off AFTER you clean your shorts... The paper plate was...

Re: Lengthening throat on lever gun chamber?
I've throated several Miroku '86 leverguns, chambered for .45-70.
For all practical purposes, those guns have no actual throat, and other calibers may be the same..
I used a friend's .458 Lott throating reamer, and didn't have to disassemble beyond removing the bolt..

Re: 336 rechambered to 358
Back in the old days, before there was a .356 or .307 Winchester, I rechambered or rebarreled '94 Winchester to cartridges based on shortened .444 Marlin brass, sized and formed in .308 and .358 dies.. The resulting rounds are virtually identical to the later .307 and .356 factory rounds.. 52,000 CU...

With the exception of the "1860 Original", I find the Henry center fires chunky, clunky, poorly balanced and heavy.. They do not seem to fit me - or sundry other shooters I know.. I actually know a couple guys who claim that they like them, but then, I've always been a bit leery of their j...

Re: Loading the .380 "for bear"
I'll admit that little Browning is somewhat dainty, but it does fire from a swinging-link locked breech just like the 1911. I would think it a bit sturdier than blowbacks, but I am no gun designer. The Browning features a solid, slotted cam in the under-barrel lug, not a swinging link like the full...

Re: Loading the .380 "for bear"
The little Browning 1911-380 is probably not the best pistol in that caliber to try hot rodding. With its polymer frame and 17 oz weight, it would take more of a beating than it was designed to handle. I love the one I have. It shoots great, without a hitch or bobble, right out of the box. The 4 1/4...

The big 16-inch guns on Iowa-class battleships were loaded with what the Navy called "black powder", which was actually a form of cordite, in chunks the size of shotgun shells or so, but was Black in color, and contained in consumable silk bags. Smokeless powders for small arms are listed ...

I've never tried their pull-on boots, but wore out a pair of lace-up packers a few years ago, and am now on my second pair.. They need to be broken in, when new, and the best method is to oil them well, and just wear them.. Soaking them in the creek and walking them dry is NOT recommended..

"Ruger-only" loads should give you an additional 250 - 400 fps from a carbine barrel, depending on bullet weight and powder used.. Slower powders and higher pressures will yield the greatest increases. My experience involved heavier-weight bullets, from 250 to 350 grains. I felt no need fo...
