Re: Reliability of Flintlocks versus Percussion in 1840s
That makes me feel better about my own experiences, I have had two percussion guns which I don't think I had a misfire, but once or twice, and it was a faulty cap. Now I have a flintlock, which when I have a good flint positioned right, is quite reliable for a good number of shots, but when that one...

Re: Rossi 92 sights
A William 5D or the Lyman 66 receiver sights (needs screw holes drilled by gunsmith to fit) fitted will work with a 16 inch barrelled Rossi 92, and give you enough elevation to use the original front sight. (The 16 inch ones often shoot too low for their sights because Rossi were putting the same si...

Re: Semi buckhorn sight
I much prefer open sights with a bead, over a peep sight. I recently shot a test for accuracy between two Winchester 94's shooting each rifle with Williams receiver sights and then the standard open factory sights. I found literally not a difference in group size between the sights 110 yards. But on...

Maybe you didnt tighten it up as much when you put the guide back in or something, maybe its sticking out slightly further than it was I would encourage you to try a shim on both sides just as an experiment, just one thickness each. Try another experiment - make the shim thicker, fold the peice of aluminium making two thicknesses (on one side or the other) and try that, I am picking you wont have to work it so hard to chamber, you time it right and it should feed without effort.
