Re: Old 1930 article. The Finest All-'Round Deer Gun

They are wonderful little rifles. I had one for a short time but had to get rid of it because it needed rebarrelling and I couldnt afford it. The action and build quality, the stockwork all bring to mind real old world class. I find it telling in the article however, that is otherwise about the Mann...

Re: Hunting with a 30-30

The trouble with jackrabbits is that they are hard to kill. A .30/30 may not be enough gun. I shot one with a .308 through the chest and had to track him for 100 yards once.

Re: Winchester 94 at the range

Okay, so I took it back to the range to check the zero at 100 metres. I shot a 1.5 inch group that is two inches high and spot on for left and right. I decided right there I dodnt need to do any more shooting and would quit while I was ahead! Coupled with the 1 inch groups I shot at 50 m I think she...

Re: Winchester 94 at the range

Thanks - I love the little Rossi 92's as well, I have a fondness for the old .44/40 cartridge in those rifles. (I think they are also great value for money.) As for the Win94, I had been looking one with a good bore that isnt AE nor with a rebounding hammer safety thing for a little while. I think '...

Winchester 94 at the range

Boys, I just got back from the range with my 'new' Winchester 94 in .30/30. I have been without one for a bout two or three years now and had been sorely missing one ever since I was foolish enough to trade my old one for something shiny which has since been long forgotten. I got the chance to recti...

Re: Wife laughs at new levergun, gets no rebuttal

I'm wondering how much is involved with the importers you guys have. Maybe they have screwed Rossi right down on the price. Over here, I have had three Rossi's, two carbines and a 24 inch barrelled rifle, all in .44/40, and all have been well made, slicked up well with use, and quite accurate; the r...

I second what C.Cash said - no characters seem to develop at all and the film basically didn't have an ending...seems like they just ran out of film! I was very disapointed because right up until the cameras stopped rolling I enjoyed it. I keep looking in the video shop for "The Other Half of M...

Re: OT: WDM Bell, elephant and the 6.5X54

They sent out rifles for field tests and market analysis in 1951. Bell wouldnt have used one but probably read about it. What it does indicate is that right up untill the end Mr Bell was aware of current developments on the shooting scene. (Either that or the magazine writer tacked on a plug for Win...

Mr Walter Bell shot exactly 1,011 elephants in his time. About 50 of them were cows which he had to shoot because they being difficult or menacing his porters. He shot about 600-700 buffalo as well, which he used to feed his people, or for the hides which were a good trade article, good for shoe lea...

Savage, probably seems unusual because the top rifle is closer to the camera than the others - makes the little '92 action look bigger than it should be! Me and the old man are .44/40 fans. (Top one is his, other two are mine.)

We are loading 24 grains of 4227 in .44/40 and it doesnt fill the case. This is suppossed to be a top load and not for the '73 I suppose.

I would live with it, but I think the amount of unburnt granules in the action is ...excessive. I will try a stronger crimp and load up a little higher and see if it gets les...
