That isn't an Indian in the first photo. The shift and final drive would have been on the right if it was. On a Harley they were on the left. Indian controls were reversed.

Stevie, the Sharps was designed to be shot with less than a full chamber so an air space is not an issue. Unless you enjoy punishment 60 to 80 grains in a carbine ceases to be fun real fast. You will find 40 to 45 grains of 2 or 3f will be a very accurate load or at least it is for most Sharps shoot...

A definite no for neatsfoot oil. It's OK for something you expect to use hard and wear out long before the lather and stitching would reach the end of its natural life. I have always used Fiebing's saddle soap for any leather I care about including antique items. Clean with the saddle soap a number ...

That is a beautiful sporting Mauser, a true classic. It is every bit as strong as an 03/03A3 Springfield, possibly stronger, and any loads listed for them can be used in your rifle. The .30-06 round is more than adequate for most game and overkill for a lot so you could reduce the government loading...

If the bullet's metal jacket is brass it has been work hardened by forming and age and fatigue have caused it to split just like an old brass cartridge case. If that's the case no problem, it's safe. Hang on to it, it has a story that needs to be told every time you show it.

It shouldn't add enough mass to give any problems. Is there a chance it's coming up against the receiver or scope as it comes to rest stopping the hammer just a little short or could it be rubbing against something as the hammer falls slowing it down a little?
