Re: one shot with a 44 or 45 lever, whats you load
I doubt that I'll ever meet Ursus arctos horribilis in even the wildest parts of Texas, so I stick to what I feel is sufficient for Ursus americanus. I have 4: 1 - 375 Win, 220 JFN @ approx 2250fps from the 22" Marlin 375; 2 - 45 Colt, 250 JFN w/24 grains of H4227 for ~1775 fps from the 20"...

Grizz, the last time I was there was over 40 years ago... There were more wild n' wooly events back then... such as a two man wild mule packin' contest, and the chuck wagon races were also using barely broke mules... as it often turned into a wild chase for the drivers & partners racing on foot ...

After I got out of the service I learned horseshoeing at La Puente Adult High School in CA. One rancher kept a stable of mules and would bring in several to be shod at a time (usually 4). None of the other senior students would volunteer to shoe 'em. I did, and never had a lick of trouble from them....

Re: .44 Special Loads Over The Years - All With bullet #429421
In the two years I was blessed to own a Winchester 94 in 44 Mag, I shot a lot of 44 spl. Most of it handloaded with the RCBS 200 grain FN bullet. I bought my first sixgun used, a Colt SAA in 45 Colt and have never looked back. I suppose that if that 94 hadn't been stolen, I've had looked for a match...

Because then the brass would be different lengths and we would complain about it. Walt is talking about me.;-) But the real reason is that the .45 Colt doesn’t need to be improved. And ME! The 45ACP doesn't need improved either... in my loading of 500+ rounds yesterday, I found 4 case in my brass c...
