Re: 22 Magnum Launching Pads
I like the 22 mag. I use it in the single-six and I also own an el cheapo Marlin 25MN bolt in it. I bought it for under $100 bucks a few years back and killed quite a few groundhogs with it. With a medium priced Simmons scope on it, almost can shoot 1 hole at 50 yards. Then my father claimed it as h...

Suburban Backyard shooting
I would like to know what is a good combo (ammo and gun) for suburban backyard shooting? Both for pests (chipmunk, squirrel, blue jay culling) and targets - most wanted attributes are accuracy and noise levels. I cannot help to wonder if some of the higher priced/higher quality air rifles are better s...

I would agree with some of the others... A good shotgun is a must. I prefer modern shotguns made by Remington... I would look at an 870 and maybe if funds allow an 11-87 sportsman semi-auto this is on the cheaper side of most of their current semi's. +1 on the 30-30 in rifle - I do not seen any &quo...

Re: Triple 4 Marlin wants a 45/70 Government
You are correct. My thinking, and I have both, is that the 45-70 is more flexable. You can load down to .444 levels, but a .444 cannot shoot a 525 grain whopper....... I think a fella could take either one for his only rifle and do pretty darn good if you recognize range limits. +1 - I really enjoy...

Re: What's your passion: the rifle, hunt or ammo?
I'm a gun nut. I get interested in one kind of firearm and then slowly drift to another type. I've been fixated on military rifles and handguns, cowboy action guns/shooting, building AK-47's, 74, Saiga conversions, then black powder and leverguns too. Add in all kinds of handguns and shotguns inter...

22LR shot shells (the ones with the crimped nose, not the CCI blue cups) and flying bumble bee's. It takes some practice with open peep sights to be able to hit them. It seems like mid to late summer those big Ol' bumble bee's are buzzing around everywhere

Stainless Ruger Blackhawk with the 4 5/8 barrel. Think compact and out of the way for the handgun since you'll be carrying the rifle in your hands. The .357 handgun will serve as back-up while the rifle will be used (probably) first. The new style vaquero sure does look pretty to me and goes alot le...

I have a Pedersoli Sharps and while doing my reshearch on which one to purchase - the Pedersoli was always reccommended as the best of the imports. They are generally thought to make the best barrel, if fact there are some BPCR shooters having good success with Pedersoli made products.

I use the laserCast 115 gr lead with 2400 - I beleive it is 8.5 grains. I've also had good luck with the Hornady 85 gr with the same load. I tried Titegroup powder but went back to 2400. I've also always used CCI small pistol primers and the Lee Crimp Die.

My vote is for the Speer. I would agree - although I have probably shot more of the Rem through my 45-70's - the Speer to me, seems put together better. I know for certain, the Rem's work fine on eastern whitetails. I beleive Brian P. in Rifle Magazine used Rem. 405's to take some African Plains ga...
