I found that 26 - 26.5grs of H-322 is a low pressure load but will still drive a 245 bullet through more than 20" of penetration on an antelope and is very accurate. I think this load is in 1300-1400fps area. I also found that 9.5grs Unique was also very accurate out of my Marlin.

Came very close to moving to the Jamestown area in the mid-90s. At the time we were looking at a 1700sqft home on 51 acres (26 wooded/25 tillable) a nice 3 story new england style barn a corrugated metal weilding shop and a natural gas well on the property...all for $92,000. I actually thought that when the stone was traveling from the kidney to the bladder was MORE painful.

The doc says the urinary tract is 4 times smaller in diameter from the kidney to the bladder than from the bladder to void..

I believe the 45-70 has better penetration because of the heavier bullets, but I tend to like the .444 because I can load both .44 cal revolvers and the .444 with the same lot of bullets. 9.5 of Unique behind a Meister 245gr .380 bullet is a VERY accurate plinking load.
I use 26 grs of H322 behind the same bullet and found that it will travel through over 20" of flesh (6" being of spine bone) and exit at approx. 147 yds. Only traveling about 1400fps but was very impressive.
