I like mine clean and a bit shiney. I use a Lyman universal de-capper and then tumble in walnut to clean them up. Wipe 'em down & clean the flash holes out, if necessary Keep them in zip lock bags til later. Later, I spray with Hornady One Shot and full length size. Tumble in corn cob with Lyman...

Yep, the Marlin 444 is a consistently accurate shooting gun. Handload and do some load development (for accuracy, if you want) and you can print cloverleafs at 50 yds. The Beartooth or Ranch Dog 290g cast bullets pushed by a stout load of H4198 or H335 or H332 will get the job done.

I checked all of the reloading manuals that I have and don't see any H322 loads. I think that you will do well with it, though. Just as info, the best load in my Marlin 336SC 219 Zipper is H4895/28.0g pushing a Speer 46g FP.

I have two 336 35Rem's and shoot cast lead in one and the Hornady 200g RN in the other. My most accurate load with the Hornady is H4895/37.0g. On a good day, 5 shots, scoped......at 50 yards about a 1" group.......at 100 yards about a 1.75" group.

I've gone over this rifle with a fine tooth comb and can not find one single flaw. Whoever at Marlin fitted the wood did an extraordinary job. I'm impressed with this one.....(I have 24 Marlins).

If I recall correctly, there was a "Mountie" type 39 variant.....the Marlin 1897 Texan. The Texan is essentially the Mountie with a square lever, 20" octagon barrel, straight stock, Marbles sights and checkering on the forearm and stock handle.

The only issue that I've had with A Marlin was with a 1980's 1894CL (.32-20). It was "letting in two" (aka The Dreaded Jam). Even though it was over 20 years old, returned it to Marlin & they fixed it for free within two days.
