I don't have an actual 44spl handgun but I was given a Texas "New Army" Cal 44 cap & ball that I've considered converting to a 44 special, if possible. What's held me back so far has been the fact it was sold by Richland Arms and the only conversion cylinders I can find are from Pietta...

What I find interesting is the new desire to put the old 30-30 capabilities in the AR platform. I'm starting to wonder if the .223 is on its way out with civilians as a preferred 'tactical' option. I know the military are moving towards the 6mm ARC for better performance.

The way I figure, the big difference is a semiauto may let you fire off a slightly quicker follow-up shot, but will that half second really matter while you're fighting recoil and a moving target.

Re: Tell me about your .44 Special
My 44 special is actually a 44mag cartridge loaded down to around 44spl velocity in my Marlin 1894. Had my +P 240gr Rem SP with a healthy dose of H110 & mag primers, but thought I'd develop something that I could get off follow up shots quickly. Came up with HP-38 behind a Horn 180gr XTP HP. Run...

If you have something extra special to shoot like a racoon with your break barrel pellet gun, you can take a syringe or any comparable tool and extract 4 or 5 drops of 2 cycle fuel or diesel fuel and put those 4 or 5 drop down into the piston chamber when the barrel is cocked. I picked up a Gamo Whisper 1300fps “Silent Stalker .177” on last fall’s pilgrimage to Cabela’s. I’ve found that the 5.4gr travels too fast and sounds like a 22lr, but the 7.8gr is just below the sound barrier and is very quiet.
Just wonder how big of critter I could take with it.

What's really hard to understand is why Remlin would let so many rifles get into distribution with such obvious defects as canted sights and very difficult lever strokes. This was not a smooth transition, and resulted in QC issues that were beyond fixing until they get a little better training. I'll agree about the quality control. Let's see now, They shortened the barrel to 18.5" but kepted the six round mag ?
From the looks of my 336's, that would make the mag two inches longer than the barrel.

It might be beneficial in the heavier calibers like 45-70 or maybe looks stylish in a “hunting gun”, but I think the thicker stock does take away from the spirit of the Lever being a handy, “everyday carry” gun. I also wondered why Marlin doesn’t offer the 30-30 in their lighter 94 version. I mean, ...

Besides, there's some pretty heavy loads published using Reloader 7 & Beartooth bullets, that are still safe.
