Re: .450 Marlin (or .45-70) loads for Cast Performance 460s
I agree completely. The 94 is so incredibly packable. This Big Bore rides in my backpack scabbard easily and can be whipped out in a second--just like drawing a revolver. It's a little lighter than the Marlin 95 and much more graceful. The rifle I'm loading for is actually John Traister's original B...

Re: .450 Marlin (or .45-70) loads for Cast Performance 460s
Thanks! There's Reloader 10, that makes sense to me. I would think 1400-1500 fps would be more than sufficient with this slug. I'm not going to mention a load, but if 40gr of the R7 is a bit much, you might want to check out 2400 I've seen some loads for 500 grainers with 2400 that look interesting,...

Re: .450 Marlin (or .45-70) loads for Cast Performance 460s
I've run a blank tester through the mag of the BB 94 and it cycles fine, so I'm in luck there. I'm not looking for an exceptionally stout load. I suspect these 460's will work fine or better at a medium velocity. I've also found a load of 40 grains of RL-7, but I'm sure that's still going to be stou...

.450 Marlin (or .45-70) loads for Cast Performance 460s
I've been searching high and low but can find almost no load data for these nice Cast Performance 460 grain hardcasts I'm hoping to turn into a big game load. I'm loading for a custom .450 Marlin originally chambered in .458x2 American. The load data for the .450 Marlin itself is almost non-existent...

Great picture. They do appear to be proud, unbeaten men. Don't forget, our culture, not our fighting ability is what made the difference. And our diseases, of course. The tribes that stood up best were the ones farthest from white settlements and the Euro-Asiatic diseases they had no immunity to.

Re: Insight for a Newbie with a 30-30?
It depends on what you mean by "dry" and "oiled." I'm talking about cleaning each part, rubbing it with CLP then wiping away excess. This leaves a thin layer on the parts and is more than sufficient between cleanings. When you say "lube" I've seen way too many newbies p...

Re: Insight for a Newbie with a 30-30?
Just clean it, use minimal CLP and wipe that off. Do not lube, oil or anything else. Dry is good for these firearms. Once you've done that see if it doesn't cycle a whole lot smoother. Just take it down and put it back together in the proper 1894 order and all will be well. My advice, having owned a...

Thanks for the help! I reduced the indentation with some slugs and fixed the sight. Barrel thickness under front dovetail--safety check
I recently cut a front dovetail leaving .050" of solid barrel at the thinnest spot out of a 1.5" thick barrel wall. My understanding is that this thickness is standard for a front sight, and I was using a standard front sight. I cut to the depth of the pre-existing screw holes so I figured...
