Dirty: Where are you at? Could it have been a C-5A Galaxy, or that huge Russian Antonov transport? The Russian behemoth occasionally stops here in Medford to pick up a load of Ericson Air-Crane helicopters for distribution around the world.

Fox: I recently bought a Ruger No. 1 in .45-70, and found the throat so short that I cannot chamber cartridges loaded with the Hornady 500 or 350-grain round noses seated to the cannelures. Needless to say, I was stunned. I do intend to have the throat relieved.

RJF: I have no first-hand experience with the .35 Rem. on elk, but would not hesitate to use one in the lodgepole thickets and dark timber we have here for shots under 100 yards. Noah, I had one of these and let it slip away. A very fine 94 variant. Folks who've only fooled with the little carbines just don't realize what a 26-inch barreled .30-30 can do.

Pitchy, where DO you find all these goodies? There is a nice write-up on the .38-55 Ideal tool in the most recent issue of SPG Blackpowder Cartridge News. Just having that tool justifies you getting a .32-40 to go with it!

That is a nice outfit Casa. I've always been curious about the accuracy potential with .45 LC loads. Obviously, the thing is a snake (and snake-in-the-grass) killer with the various .410 loads.

Owen: The Model 8 is one of my favorite Browning designs. I've had them in .30 and .35 Remington, and always wanted to play with one in .25 Remington.

Owen, one other option would be to load a lighter cast bullet, say 300 grains or even 285, to duplicate the British express cartridge of the 1870s-80s. They loaded such slugs in bigger cases than yours such as the .450 3 1/4 Black Powder Express precisely for taking deer-sized game at longer ranges....

Joe: I'm sure it would be totally lawful, as it is by United States Code definition already a handgun. It would require bending and reshaping the tangs, as well as reshaping the lever, though. Definitely not cheap!

FW: I've handled the LC9s often and hope to have one before long. I think it's a very nice design myself, and about perfect for concealed carry, especially in one of those 5.11 underarmor T-shirt holster thingies.

Denis: I think Nate is right about the 1:30 twist. I believe the Ruger .44 carbine has a 1:38 twist though, so 1:30 in the 12-inch RH barrel ought to stabilize the light- and mid-weights. I'll try those 300-grain XTPs in it when I can.
